Op 23 Mei durf ons geselskap van 8 Constantiaberg aan. ʼn Ligte reëntjie stuit ons nie en demp ook nie ons entoesiasme nie. Die hoop beskaam nie. Na die reën gewyk het speel die miswolke wegkruipertjie met ons. Ons besoek die grotte op die berg. Die miswolke hou hul mooiste skouspel vir die afgaan aan die Houtbaaikant. Net die bergpieke steek bokant die mis uit. Met ʼn flou sonnetjie tussen ons blaaie stap ons deur dankbare fynbos en eindig ons met ons gemoed vol van vreugde weer by ons voertuie. On Saturday, April 25, a group consisting of four visitors and five members undertook a hike in Fernkloof Nature Reserve with Johanita. The route commenced along Klipspringer and proceeded up Fishermanskloof to Kanonkop, passing White Rock before stopping at Galpin Hut for breakfast. Participants enjoyed panoramic views of Hemel en Aarde Vallei and Walker Bay. The return journey followed the jeep track adjacent to the Vogelgat reserve boundary, revisited the southern flank of Platberg, offered further vantage points over Walker Bay from the red hills, and included an adventurous descent through Droekloof to observe the three Mosseldams. The group then reached the Mossel River and paused for lunch. The final segment traversed the Lemoenkop track, leading back to Fernkloof.

On Saturday 21 March Fay Pistorius took a group of hikers up West Peak in the Helderberg Nature reserve. It was a challenging route, but hikers were rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Stellenbosch, Somerset West and False Bay at 1003m elevation.

Op Saterdag 28 April het 12 stappers in lekker koel weer 'n 20 km roete vanaf die Jonkershoek reservaat se hek gestap. Op met die Geelhoutroete en toe al met met die Twin traverse kontoer langs. Daarna met die boonste kontoer oor die Lang- en Jakkelsvlei rivier klowe aan die voete van Rifberg en Katedraal. Na ‘n laaste versnapering op die platvorm waar die kontoerpaadjie vasloop in die roete na Bergriviernek kon ons die 3 km afdraand na Wittebrug aanpak. Nog 'n 5 km op die sirkelpad en ons was terug by die hek. Dandie Linda du Toit wat die stap vir ons gelei het.

Jonkershoek Hike – Saturday 7 March

Seven of us signed in at the Jonkershoek entrance early on Saturday morning, ready to hike to the second waterfall. It was a lovely cool morning – perfect for hiking!

However, several large groups had already filled all the parking areas, so we had to change our plan. Instead, we followed the Yellowwood Trail and then diverted halfway up toward Saaltjie, where we were rewarded with spectacular panoramic mountain views.

After a well-deserved refreshment stop, we retraced our steps back to the Yellowwood Trail and completed the route to the Jonkershoek entrance. Some of us ended the morning with a relaxing coffee.

Distance: 8 km
Elevation gain: 460 m

On Sunday 22 Feb a small group joined Paul Lee up Orange Kloof hiking trail. Paul is an environmental scientist, geologist and climatologist.
Team leader and senior Meteriological officer for the 50th South African Antarctic Expedition to Queen Maud Land base, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. A passionate adventurer who has undertaken numerous expeditions worldwide, and will have just returned from Antarctica.
In 2022 he co-authored a book on the history of Table Mountains' dams with the UMVOTO Foundation.
He is currently a consultant for Environmental Impact studies on land in the Cape Peninsula and beyond.
He now guides hikes through this landscape to relive the history with fellow hikers.

An added treat is having access to the Museum on Table Mountain.

On Saturday 31 January 2026 Fay Pistorius took a group of 16 hikers out on the Rooiels Coastal Circle Route, about 10km total distance. We had stunning views all around and plenty of bird life to enjoy. The hike ended with a swim in the sea and drinks at the Drummond Arms.
