Laaste kans!

So kom saam!

Camino Preps!
A few of our May Groups' members joined the Simonsberg Winewalk with Erns Grundling and Austin Williams starting and ending at the beautiful Plaisir Wine Estate in the heart of the Boland.

Erns is an amazing tour leader. His story telling and real life pilgrim truths makes any hike feel purposeful and energetic. Life is worth living!
"May I die one day while living life" Ernst reminded us prospective pilgrims - in the words of Paolo Coelho.

On the way we were treated with excellent Siver Mine and Plaisir Wines ending off the morning with Pizzas and Bubbly at Plaisir Wine Estate.

Doing a 13 km undulating hike two months prior to your Camino is an excellent way to strengthen those joonts and building mussel memory!

What does your Camino preps look like?

Yolandi van der Wath attended the Fairway Santiago forum in Santiago de Compostella this past two weeks to become even more informed about different Camino de Santiago options, and make sure our 2026 pilgrims have the best options, accommodation and support!

Before the Fair, Yolandi and hubby Org explored the Via de le Plata, or famous "Silver Way" stretching over 1000 km's from Seville in Southern Spain all the way North to either continue the last 100km's to Santiago from Ourense or join the Camino Francés from Astorga.

What an amazing route and we are so excited to add this well explored route now also to our routes. Also an excellent option for a cycling Camino!

You can check out the itinerary on our website: www.stapdiecamino.co.za

Exciting to share some highlights of their trip with you!

Yolandi van der Wath just finished a famtrip (familiarising trip) of the Via de la Plata (literally “Silver Route”). It runs south - north through western Spain, originally following a Roman road connecting Seville (Andalusia) to Astorga (Castile and León) or you can take the variant through Ourense.

Ourense is just over 100 km from Santiago so pilgrims walking from here qualify for their Compostela.

📍 Key Facts
• Distance: ~1,000 km from Seville to Santiago de Compostela
• Main regions: Andalusia → Extremadura → Castile and León → Galicia
• Fewer pilgrims than on the Camino Francés or Camino Portuguese routes
• Difficulty: Moderate to challenging — long stages, hot weather in the south, and fewer services in some stretches
• Best seasons: Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–October)

O Boy! Beautiful, captivating, intelligence filled Salamanca located in Western Spain, in the region of Castilla y León — about 2 hours west of Madrid.
With it's golden sandstone buildings, lively university atmosphere, and rich history this is a great starting point if you plan a Camino of around 500 km's - roughly around 22 days of walking.

Yolandi van der Wath is on her way to Spain to walk the Via de la Plata — also known as “The Silver Way.” 🥾🇪🇸

This iconic pilgrimage stretches about 1,000 km from Seville in the south to Santiago de Compostela in the north of Spain — a journey of faith, endurance, and discovery. 🇪🇸

After exploring parts of the Via de la Plata route, Org and Yolandi will be attending the Fairways 2025 Camino Fair & Conference. How exciting! 🌍✨
