Who remembers the thrill of a night swim?

The way it felt faintly against the rules. The cold shock of the water, the dark sky above, the electricity of doing something that felt just slightly forbidden, even when it wasn't.

In adult life, the only rules are the ones we make ourselves. And the wisest ones we know have made very few. Bake the cake on a Tuesday. Wear the good perfume on a Wednesday. Swim at night, with neon lights bobbing on the water and the oaks watching approvingly from above.

Beneath the women's gazes, the sculptural geometry of Atang Tshikare and Eve Collett’s Leifo chair strikes a deliberate contrast in charred wood and woven grass.

Every season asks something different of us.

Winter teaches us to linger, spring urges us forward - and somewhere between the two is a brief, almost imperceptible shift, when neither season has quite overpowered the other.

Here at the villa, the fire is still lit in the evenings, but the garden has begun to stir. Camellias give way to new shoots and day by day, the sun stretches a little further across the lawn.

In these inbetween days, we're savouring the last of winter without wishing it away, even as spring waits just beyond the gate.
