As the final summer clouds clear, Kruger is officially stepping into the dry winter season. This year, the transition feels particularly profound. The extraordinary rains and devastating floods of January and March tested the whole region to its limits - submerging bridges, breaching camp fences, and leaving behind a massive loss of infrastructure.
But the resilient African bush is already adapting.
The roaring rivers have calmed, the waterlogged soil is drying out, and we are welcoming the first beautifully crisp, cool mornings and clear, golden afternoons. With the thick summer bush beginning to thin and natural water holes drying up, the wildlife is starting to congregate around the more permanent water sources.
The challenging wet season is behind us, and prime game-viewing season has officially arrived.
