Over the last two days, the Garden Route and greater Tsitsikamma region have faced some of the harshest weather conditions weβve seen in years, with severe flooding, relentless rain, gale force winds and weather warnings reaching a Level 8 severity. π§οΈπ§οΈ
Our thoughts are with every family, business, community member and traveller who has been affected during this time. We sincerely hope that everyone is safe, warm and being looked after. π€
We also want to extend a massive thank you to the incredible volunteers, emergency personnel, municipal teams, Eskom crews and community members who have worked tirelessly through impossible conditions, restoring power, assisting with evacuations, clearing roads, delivering aid and helping wherever they can. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.π
At this stage, the MTO mountain bike trails remain CLOSED. We kindly ask riders and visitors to please stay off the trails for the next few days to allow them time to dry out and to prevent further damage.
At the moment, we are still assessing the full extent of the damage to both the trails and the Biocamps but we are hopeful the damage is not extensive.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and support during this time. Plett and Tsitsikamma are incredibly resilient communities and together we will rebuild, recover and come back stronger.
Please stay safe everyone. π
