Nobody visits Tulbagh for a salad in winter 😉 🍔👇
But they do visit for burgers like these.
If you’re looking for some of the best burgers in Tulbagh, these are the spots worth adding to your winter food list.

🍔 Kole & Deeg
Their Wagyu Burger is stacked high with a rich Wagyu patty topped with bacon jam, cheddar, lettuce and tomato, all served in their traditional-style roosterkoek. Smoky, messy and best unshared.

🥖 Chef&Co.
Their Gatsby is a proper Cape classic done the Chef & Co. way. Grilled curry chicken, bacon, fries, cheese sauce, mayonnaise, cheddar, dill cucumbers, grilled onions and onion rings, all packed into a half French loaf.

🥓 Readers Restaurant
Anything here comes with charm, and their BLT Cheese Burger is no exception. Hearty from the first bite. Just a classic burger that satisfies exactly what you want it to.

🍺 Bush Pub Tulbagh & Herholdt's Pub & Grub
Sometimes all you want is a classic pub-style burger and a cold drink. Bush Pub and Herholdt's Pub keeps it simple: generous portions, good company and a burger that goes perfectly with a cold beer.

🍷 The Taste at Manley | Manley Wine Estate
This is your true gourmet option: brioche bun, brie cheese and red wine caramelised onions that work especially well alongside a glass of their Pinotage. This is a burger you’d face wind and rain to try.

🔥 Boord Restaurant, Farmstall & Accommodation
Their Signature Burger doesn’t hold back with a beef patty topped with calamari, lettuce, onion, tomato, bacon and cheese stacked into one burger that sounds excessive until you try it.

Your team probably doesn’t need another boardroom… it needs a reset 🍷👇

This time of the year, deadlines stack up, calendars fill quickly, and people start working beside each other instead of with each other.

That’s what makes Tulbagh such an easy choice for a one- or two-night team escape.

It's close enough to Cape Town to avoid complicated planning, but far enough away to shift everyone out of their usual routine. We have country stays tucked into the mountains, wine estate cottages, historic stays, and space to re-align your teams goals.

And because winter is a quieter travel period, it’s one of the best times to enjoy the valley without the crowds.

This is what makes Chardonnay Day worth celebrating in Tulbagh 🍷

Across the Tulbagh Wine Route, you’ll find Chardonnay done differently across our estates. One bottle can taste bright and crisp, while the next feels rich and creamy, making International Chardonnay Day the perfect excuse to crack open a bottle and discover which style you enjoy most.

🍋 An unwooded Chardonnay goes straight to the bottle.
This usually gives you a fresher, lighter style of wine with brighter citrus, green apple and crisp fruit flavours. A Chardonnay that embodies these flavours is the Theuniskraal Wines Chardonnay, which produces flavours of lemon and lime with undertones of peach, apple and pear.

🪵 A wooded Chardonnay spends its time ageing in barrels.
This ageing process creates a fuller wine, often with creamier notes like vanilla, butter and toasted nuts. Manley Wine Estate ’s Eikenmaat Semillon-Chardonnay is aged in Swabian oak, giving the fruity flavours a creamier, lightly toasted character.

🥂 Chardonnay is also a classic grape used in Cap Classique, especially in Blanc de Blancs styles. At Krone and Saronsberg Cellar , Chardonnay brings freshness, elegance and brightness to their sparkling wines.

Long before Church Street became one of Tulbagh’s most recognisable landmarks, this building was already part of the town’s story. 🏛👇

Just outside of Town, De Oude Drostdy: Museum and Venue, Tulbagh was built in 1804 and originally served as the seat of the magistrate of Tulbagh. Today, it stands as a national heritage site and cultural-historical museum, giving visitors a closer look at the valley before modern tourism shaped it.

Inside, you’ll find early Cape furniture, household pieces that help bring the building’s history to life.

What makes the story even more remarkable is that De Oude Drostdy was declared a National Monument in 1969, just two days before the devastating earthquake on 29 September shook the building to its foundations.

Today, the space continues to evolve. Open on select weekends and specific occasions, the museum also hosts weddings, functions, high teas and occasional events like Kintsugi, giving people new ways to experience one of Tulbagh’s most historic buildings.

And because it’s located right near the town centre, it’s easy to include in your weekend plans. Stop in during a slower morning, after breakfast, or while exploring Church Street.

📌 Save this for your next Tulbagh weekend, then explore more local experiences on our website.https://tulbaghtourism.co.za/

Following the recent flooding across parts of the Western Cape, the Tulbagh Valley is continuing with clean-up and recovery efforts 🌿

Many local businesses, accommodation establishments, wine farms and restaurants have been affected in different ways, and while parts of the valley are beginning to reopen, others are still working hard behind the scenes to recover.

Right now, the best thing visitors can do before travelling to Tulbagh is to phone ahead and confirm operating hours, road access and availability directly with businesses.

We’re grateful for the patience, support and kindness shown to our local businesses and residents during this time

📌 Please continue supporting local where possible, and contact establishments directly before planning your visit to the valley.

Everything you think you know about winter weddings… might need a second look 💍
Planning a winter wedding might seem a little chilly, but it’s actually one of the best times of year to say “I do.”❄️

A winter wedding gives you a better chance of securing your preferred date. With less competition than the summer season, there’s often more availability, more flexibility from suppliers, and even the opportunity to put together a better overall package.

It also changes the way your guests experience the day. Instead of being spread out across lawns and gardens, people naturally come together, creating a more connected and intimate atmosphere.

At this time of year, you don’t need to overdecorate. The space does most of the work for you. Bringing your wedding indoors means softer lighting, lit fireplaces, and layers of texture that add warmth and depth to the setting.

And when it comes to food and wine, winter naturally leans into richer, slow-cooked dishes that pair beautifully with a glass of locally produced red wine. It’s a menu that leaves your guests feeling satisfied and well taken care of.
