Stayed at Mabalingwe Nature Reserve this weekend — keen to hear what others think of it?

Ours was a mixed experience, to be honest. The campsite, location and pools are all great, and the ablutions are genuinely very good and clean. No complaints there at all.

The staff, unfortunately, are the one big negative. The person running the shop seems thoroughly miserable to be there — every request feels like an imposition. The restaurant at the tennis courts has three people working, yet half our order was forgotten and what did arrive came out wrong. And again, the attitude was that you’re being a nuisance for daring to ask for a toasted sandwich at lunchtime on a Sunday.

If it were the only lodge within a 200km radius, you’d shrug and get on with it. But there are so many brilliant, friendly options out there that it hasn’t made our “see you again soon” list. Replace the staff running the shop and the tennis court restaurant and it would be a completely different story.

Mabalingwe Game Reserve really needs to get a way to motivate their staff!

Gobabis, near the Buitepos border between Namibia and Botswana. Very decent first stop when entering Namibia or last stop when exiting. Stay at Die Dam Trans Kalahari End Resort. Camp or book a chalet. Nice history to the “prison” restaurant. Nice pool and sunsets!

Mile 108 in the Skeleton Coast north of Henties Bay. Private ablution. Best bathroom you will find at a campsite. Right on the beach. Just amazing!
