Following the official launch of Tourism Month on the 1st of September, delegates were invited to experience a taste of what the exciting new Green Piketberg Route 366 has to offer.

The journey provided guests, including Minister Dr Ivan Meyer, with a glimpse into the people, places, flavours and stories that form part of this unique regenerative tourism route.

The day began in Goedverwacht, where delegates experienced the warmth, heritage and offerings of this remarkable rural community. From there, the group enjoyed a morning coffee from Berg Coffee and later visited the roastery in Piketberg to learn more about the journey behind every cup.

The programme continued with visits to The Voyager and The Flying Fig Bistro in Piketberg, followed by a delicious lunch at the Kloof Restaurant at Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort.

The day concluded at Carmién Tea Shop, where delegates enjoyed a tea and nibble pairing while hearing the story behind the tea, from how it is grown and harvested to the journey that brings it from the farm to the cup.

The Green Piketberg Route 366 is about more than simply travelling through a destination. It is about meaningful experiences, supporting local businesses and communities, celebrating heritage and connecting visitors with the authentic stories of the Bergrivier region.

Yesterday, Bergrivier Tourism was proud to host the Western Cape Tourism Month 2026 Launch as we celebrated the official start of Tourism Month in the beautiful Bergrivier region.

The day highlighted the Green Piketberg Route 366 and the important role that tourism can play in creating opportunities, supporting local communities and showcasing the people, places, heritage and products that make our region unique.

Our journey started in the beautiful village of Goedverwacht, where delegates experienced community-based tourism at its best. Local women and small-scale farmers shared their talents through a traditional bread table featuring homemade products, locally produced cheese and coffee from Berg Coffee. The experience was a wonderful example of how tourism can create meaningful opportunities and connect local communities with the wider tourism economy.

A special word of thanks to Dr Ivan Meyer, Western Cape Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, for joining us for this significant occasion and sharing in the launch of Tourism Month. Minister Meyer also symbolically planted a tree, marking the start of a new chapter for tourism growth and sustainable development in our region.

Thank you to our partners, stakeholders, communities and everyone who contributed to making this day such a memorable celebration.

The Green Piketberg Route 366 is about more than simply attracting visitors. It is about creating lasting opportunities, supporting local businesses, preserving our heritage and ensuring that our communities benefit from tourism.
