Just days after a poacher’s trap killed a young mountain gorilla in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park in 2012, researchers witnessed something extraordinary. Two young gorillas worked together to locate and dismantle other traps in the area.

According to scientists, the confidence and speed with which they destroyed the traps suggested they already knew the danger — and had dismantled them before. It was a rare and powerful display of intelligence, cooperation, and self-protection in the wild. 🦍✨
