Spotlight on the incredible 🌿

Switching things up from lodges, we want to shout out the Musekese Conservation. This is a Zambian organization in the Greater Kafue National Park which tirelessly works to promote sustainable conservation in the massive ecosystem.

Founders Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith, conservationists and safari guides, have built trusted relationships with DNPW, tourism operators, and communities, contributing to park management and guide training.

Focused on capacity building, they support law enforcement, research, and community-based resource management to protect wildlife, preserve habitats, and promote sustainable livelihoods around Kafue National Park. Thanks to their incredible efforts, the park has seen huge increases in wildlife and community engagement in supporting conservation 🐆

Some VERY exciting news from Lower Zambezi - at Chiawa Camp, guests have been treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience with pangolin sightings recently! These elusive, armor-plated creatures are among the most secretive and rare mammals in Africa, making every encounter with them truly extraordinary✨

Never heard of a pangolin? We’ve put together some info on what makes pangolins so special:

1️⃣ Unique Adaptations: Pangolins are covered in tough, overlapping scales made of keratin (the same protein in human nails). When threatened, they roll into a tight ball, using their scales as protection.

2️⃣ Master Foragers: These nocturnal creatures feed primarily on ants and termites, using their long, sticky tongues to scoop up their meals. A single pangolin can eat up to 70 million insects a year, helping to keep ecosystems in balance.

3️⃣ Incredible Rarity: Pangolins are very shy and mostly active at night, making them nearly impossible to spot on safari. Sightings like these are unbelievably rare!

Sadly, pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world due to high demand for their scales and meat.

Witnessing a pangolin in its natural habitat is a privilege and a testament to the pristine environment and conservation efforts in the area to see how we can work together to protect these fascinating creatures for generations to come 🌍💛

The king of the Big 5, lions embody the untamed beauty of Africa. Here are 5 incredible facts about these magnificent big cats:

🦁 Thriving in Zambia’s Parks: Zambia’s lion population is strong, with significant numbers in South Luangwa, Kafue, and Lower Zambezi National Parks. If a lion sighting is on your bucket list, we’d recommend visiting on of these areas.

🦁Roaming in Prides: Lions are highly social and live in prides, typically made up of females, cubs, and a few males. Females do the hunting while males defend the pride’s territory.

🦁Strong Hunters: Lions can take down prey much larger than themselves, such as buffalo and even young elephants. Their teamwork and strategy during hunts are incredible to witness!

🦁Lions Love to Snooze: Did you know lions can spend up to 20 hours a day resting? This is because they use a lot of energy in short bursts while hunting, so rest is essential.

🦁Vulnerable Species: Although lions have a strong presence in Zambia, they’re still classified as vulnerable. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect these iconic animals.
