BREAKING NEWS

The body of a tourist who slipped and fell to his death at the Victoria Falls gorge has been retrieved after a complex operation.

A team of rescuers used inflatable boats, kayaks and ropes to access the gorge where the tourist's body was trapped.

The operation took six hours, according to the New Zimbabwe website.

A phone believed to be owned by the tourist who was taking photos when he slipped was also recovered.

The family of the deceased thanked the retrieval team and said they would now proceed with the funeral.

The government had appealed to private companies with required equipment to help retrieve the body.

THE FIG TREE( MUKUYU) ON THE K50 BANKNOTE.

The Fig tree with 50 meters wide is situated in Kabwe along Kabwe's Freedom way a Kilometer away from the Kabwe Civic Centre office.
The tree served as a business place and many occasions during the early years of the town's history.
For several years the shade of the tree was used for assembling donkeys and carrier caravans for journeys to the North and North-East at the time when Broken Hill (Kabwe) was the rail-head for most of Northwestern Rhodesian(Western province).
As well as a meeting place for Freedom Fighters and a Resting place. That tree stands on the central spot of our nation. Historical in politics too. Very much linked to the Mulungushi rock of authority and the UNIP Era.

In 2002 the Bank of Zambia recognized the historical significance of the tree and depicted it on the Fifty kwacha(K50) Banknote.
The Fig Tree is still a cool place for friendly conservation and a business place.
