Did you know.......Impalas are classed as 'mixed feeders' which means that they eat a variety of vegetation. They are highly adaptable herbivores and vary their diet depending upon what food is readily available. They prefer fresh grass, especially when this is in plentiful supply during the annual rains, but as the dry season progresses, and grass becomes increasingly scarce, they will also browse the foliage of shrubs and bushes. Their diet also includes fruits, flowers and seed pods. This wide range of food allows them to survive and thrive in different habitats.

Did You Know:

Crocodiles swallow stones in a practice known as "lithophagy". This is sometimes by accident whilst attacking live prey, but can also be done on purpose, possibly as a source of minerals, to get rid of parasites, or to aid in grinding and digesting difficult meals. The swallowed stones are correctly known as "gastroliths". Studies have also shown that the stones may also act as ballast. The increased load in the stomach, though relatively small, at around 2.5% of its body-weight, is thought to help crocodiles to be able to sink after taking in extra air. They can then stay underwater for much longer periods.

DID YOU KNOW

Ethiopian New Year takes place on the 11th of September or on the 12th during a leap year. It is known as Enkutatash, which means "Gift of Jewels". Ethiopian calendar has twelve months of 30 days plus five or six epagomenal days, which comprise thirteenth months. The sixth epagomenal day is added every four years.

The New Year signifies the end of the long rainy season and the beginning of a bright sky and a dazzling sunlight. The countryside turns into gold with the yellow daisies (adey abeba) covering the entire fields in rural areas of Ethiopia, which are in bloom at this time of the year.
