CATHOLIC CHURCH AND BRE CALL FOR PEACEFUL, FREE AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS AHEAD OF THIS MONTH GENERAL ELECTIONS.

The Catholic Church and the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) have appealed for peaceful, free and credible elections ahead of Zambia's 2026 General Elections.

Speaking during the Peace and Unity Mass at St. Agatha Catholic Parish in Kapulanga, the Ngambela, on behalf of the King Litunga, urged political leaders and citizens to uphold peace, unity, respect and integrity throughout the election period. He also called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to conduct transparent and impartial elections while encouraging political parties to respect the will of the people.

The Ngambela further highlighted key development challenges in Barotseland, including poor roads, poverty, unemployment and limited industrial growth, and called for increased investment in agriculture, livestock and fisheries.

Meanwhile, St. Agatha Parish Priest Fr. Francis Wakunguma and Mongu Diocese Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Senzo Mwanza urged leaders to promote issue-based campaigns, reject violence and divisive language, and put the welfare of the people first.

The Mass ended with prayers for Zambia, the President, political leaders, the ECZ, the King Litunga and the BRE, asking God to grant the country peaceful, free, fair and credible elections.
