LOZI WARRIORS 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🗣🗣

This is a picture of Lozi warriors. It was taken 1890s by a missionary on their way to or from their last fight with the Tonga/Ilas. Those women may indicate 'captives' after the fight although the tongas are beleived to have refused to fight and asked them to get whatever they wanted as they, the tongas, were tired of fighting and pleaded for friendship - birthing the chimbuya relationship.

Around this very time, the Lozis had a battle with the Kaondes at Kamusongolwa hill in Kasempa. During this battle with the Kaondes the Lozi warriors were exhausted by the tactics used by the Kaondes of hiding on the hill. It was also during this that time the Bemba warriors happened to pass by Kamusongolwa hill and found the Lozi warriors. The Lozis were tired and didn't want a fight, and the bembas who were just passing by told them not worry as they were not interested in them.

The bemba warriors were actually carrying some local brew which they gave to the Lozi warriors. Legend has it that the Lozis got drank and slept and in the morning when they woke up, they found that the bembas had taken whatever of value the Lozis got from the Kaondes... and this is how they started referring to Bembas as "manyukunyuku". Manyukunyuku simply means non-lozis from far away land with bad manners.
