Great news for Zimbabwe’s aviation, tourism, and global connections!
The Chief Executive Officer of the Mutapa Investment Fund, Dr John Mangudya, has announced that Air Zimbabwe is targeting June 2026 to resume direct flights between Harare and London.
He made the announcement this morning while speaking at the inaugural Zimpapers Public Lecture Series held at the Harare Institute of Technology.
Dr Mangudya revealed that efforts to revive Air Zimbabwe are well underway, with aircraft leasing plans aimed at increasing flight frequency locally, regionally, and internationally. Government has also authorised the sale of a Boeing 777, with the proceeds set to be used as a deposit for smaller domestic aircraft, while arrangements are being finalised to lease a larger aircraft for long-haul routes.
“One of these Boeings will fly to London. Work has already begun, and by June 2026, we must be back on the London route,” he said.
The return of direct Harare–London flights is expected to boost tourism, trade, and diaspora connectivity, restoring one of Zimbabwe’s most valuable international routes.
Reflecting on the route’s historic importance, Dr Mangudya noted:
“Years ago, we would export our horticultural produce in the morning and evening, and by early morning our products were already on shop shelves in the UK. That is coming back.”
