Lake Kariba in Zambia 🇿🇲 and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

1. The lake is the largest MAN-MADE Lake and Resouvor in the world by VOLUME

2. Its Volume is estimated as 180 Cubic Kilometres, Water that is sufficient to supply Kenya 🇰🇪 for 36 Years given it's current annual freshwater withdrawal

3. The lake’s maximum depth is 97 Meters, and hence at its deepest point; Lake Kariba is deeper than Lake Victoria's deepest point

4. By maximum depth, the Lake ranks 7th in Africa (across all Lakes, artificial and natural)

5. It's surface area is estimated as 5,420 Sq.KMs, which ranks the lake as the 5th largest in Africa by Surface Area (across all Lakes, artificial and natural)

6. Among the artificial lakes, Lake Kariba ranks 2nd after Lake Volta in Ghana 🇬🇭

7. Lake Kariba maximum length is 280 KMs and is 32 KMs at its widest point

8. The Lake’s construction was completed in 1959, and its first electricity was generated in January 1960

9. The Kariba Dam has an estimated installed capacity of about 2,000 MW which feeds Zambia 🇿🇲 and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 with electricity

10. The lake is home to a booming fishing sector, with the major species being the Tiger fish, Bream, Tilapia, Catfish, Barbel, Labeo, Jack and the mighty Vundu among others

11. The lake’s annual fish production is in excess of 25,000 MTs in both Zambia 🇿🇲 and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

12. Within its basin also lies multiple irrigation schemes
