Germany will abolish the remonstration procedure for visa rejections worldwide, eliminating the opportunity for foreigners to reassess their rejected applications.

Foreigners applying for a visa for Germany will no longer have the opportunity to have their rejected visa application reassessed through the remonstration process.

The Federal Foreign Office of Germany has decided to abolish the remonstration procedure for visa rejections worldwide from 1 July 2025.

However, judicial review under law will still exist, and adequate legal protection will also be guaranteed in the future, and that right will not be limited by the abolition of the remonstration procedure. All applicants will have the option of submitting a new visa application at any time in the case of a rejection.

Termination of the remonstration procedure eliminates a legal remedy in the visa application procedure that is not statutorily prescribed and which, up to now, has been granted voluntarily.

Tuesday: Travel Tips and Advice
Money Matters for Travel
1. Budgeting
- Plan your expenses by category (e.g., accommodation, transport, food, activities) before you travel.
- Set aside an emergency fund for unexpected expenses.

2. Currency Management
- Exchange some cash before you leave but avoid carrying large amounts. Compare rates at banks or authorized exchange outlets for the best deal.
- Use ATMs abroad for cash withdrawals, as they often offer competitive rates. Check for fees with your bank beforehand.

3. Cards vs. Cash
- Bring a mix of payment options: credit cards, debit cards, and some cash. Travel-friendly credit cards with no foreign transaction fees are ideal.
- Be aware of the local preference for cards or cash in your destination.

4. Protect Your Money
- Use an RFID-blocking wallet to prevent electronic theft of card information.
- Keep some cash and a spare card in a separate location in case of loss or theft.

5. Track Spending
- Use apps to monitor your expenses during the trip. Staying aware helps you avoid overspending.

6. Local Payment Methods
- Research mobile payment options that might be popular in your destination (like AliPay, M-Pesa, etc.).

Bad News if you’re under 21
Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean are cracking down on young people cruising with them.
It’s especially bad news if you’re under the age of 21 and leaving port in the USA alone.

If someone under the age of 21 wants to travel with Carnival or Royal Caribbean, they must be accompanied by someone who is older than 25.
They have to be a relative or ‘guardian’ but they do not have to be the legal guardian of that person.
However, if you’re married and both under the age of 21, you’re okay, as you’re exempt from needing a companion aged 26 or older. You’ll just have to present your marriage certificate as evidence. This same rule exists for people serving in the military between the ages of 18-21.

Carnival says: “Guests are required to be 21 years of age [on embarkation day] to travel on their own. Guest ages will be verified at embarkation. Guests not conforming to this policy will result in denied boarding, and no compensation will be provided at embarkation.

“Guests 20 years of age and younger must travel with a relative or guardian 25 years of age or older.”
Royal Caribbean’s website says: “Royal Caribbean’s minimum age to sail unaccompanied on sailings originating in North America is twenty-one.”
