Did you Know....
Lake Kariba is a massive man-made lake located on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Here's a breakdown of its size ¹:
- Surface Area: approximately 5,580 square kilometers (2,153 square miles)
- Length: 223-280 kilometers (139-174 miles)
- Width: up to 40 kilometers (25 miles)
- Volume: 180-185 cubic kilometers (43-44 cubic miles), making it the world's largest man-made reservoir by volume
- Maximum Depth: 97 meters (318 feet)
- Average Depth: 29-35 meters (95-115 feet)
To put that into perspective, Lake Kariba is roughly four times larger than the Three Gorges Dam in terms of volume. Its enormous size and hydroelectric power plant make it a vital source of electricity for both Zambia and Zimbabwe
