It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved and well-known bushbuck, Shingi.💔

Shingi was brought to us as a young lamb in December 2005 by Mark Brightman, who had found her abandoned in a drain. Steve and Wendy Edwards, owners of Musango, took her in and lovingly nursed her back to health at the camp, where she grew up and became a friendly and familiar resident.

Over the years, Shingi had many babies of her own, raising them in the safety and comfort of the camp she knew as home. We estimate she had between 14 and 16 offspring, many of whom have since had young of their own and continue to live around the camp. Thanks to Shingi, we now have a thriving population of around 25–30 bushbuck who are regularly seen by our guests.

Shingi would have turned 20 this year—an extraordinary age, and among the oldest known for a bushbuck. Watching her grow and change over the years has been a true gift to all of us at Musango, as well as to the many guests who had the joy of meeting her. She became a very special part of our lives and leaves us with heavy hearts and beautiful memories.

Rest easy, sweet Shingi. You were truly one of a kind and we will never forget you.
