Lilac breasted rollers - are called “rollers” because of the dramatic aerial acrobatics they perform during courtship and territorial displays, where they dive from high altitudes and rock, tumble, or “roll” from side-to-side. These maneuvers are often accompanied by loud, harsh calls.
With impressive aerial acrobatics during mating season, they dive steeply and roll from side to side in the air. Males perform these dives to impress potential mates.
I’m pretty impressed with this incredible capture by in the park this weekend! Big thanks to for taking us into the park! Watch this space … there’s plenty more to come from this incredible day in the Zambezi National Park!
