👉 Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming to the Secretariat Ms. Randi Davis, Resident Representative of UNDP and Mr. Francisco Roquette, Deputy Resident Representative.

🧩 The meeting served as an excellent opportunity to explore the potential for enhanced collaboration between WBF and UNDP, building upon shared objectives in promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation across the Western Balkans.

🤝 Both parties agreed to maintain close communication and explore potential cooperation's in the near future.

👉 Last week in Ferizaj and Shtime, we continued implementing the “Development of Capacity Building Programmes for Cultural and Creative Industries in the Western Balkans” project.

Supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation's Office in Tirana AICS Tirana, the two-day event focused on access to finance and pitching skills for actors of CCI industries.

Participants received detailed information about funding opportunities, different national, regional and international schemes, as well as alternative funding sources, art of pitching etc.

We would like to thank Komuna Shtime and Komuna e Ferizajt for supporting and facilitating our workshops.

New opportunities for actors in the cultural and creative industries will be unveiled soon. Stay tuned for more!

📍 Happening Now | Day 2 of the Council of Senior Officials

The high-level representatives appointed by the six Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the governing bodies of the Western Balkans Fund, are continuing deliberations on WBF's ongoing activities, strategic development and upcoming funding opportunities.

The decision taken over the course of those two days pave the way for enhanced regional cooperation and stronger support for the Civil Society in the Western Balkans Region.

🤝 WBF Council of Senior Officials, led by the Prishtina 2025 Chairmanship-in-Office, is currently in session.

🔸 At the Council, the high officials appointed by the six Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Region will review the Secretariat's activities and approve a roadmap for the upcoming quarter.

💪 Strategic decisions and new funding opportunities are high on the agenda of this Council.

🏛️ Bogdan Bogdanović, the architect, left multiple marks of his work across former Yugoslavia.

📚 One of our grantees, the Vam Centar in Belgrade, explored this legacy and transformed it into a powerful tool for cooperation and reconciliation through a series of inspiring workshops and exhibitions.

The final result? A rich dedicated book that captures the essence of Bogdanović’s ideas, designs, and the values. A must-read for all lovers of architecture, history, and regional dialogue.

✅ This remarkable project was implemented by Vam Centar (Belgrade), the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), and the Museum of Polimje (Berane), and was proudly supported under our 6th Call for Proposals.

🌱 Regional Collaboration for Sustainable Waste Management

Recently, the Ecodesign and Management Institute - EDMI hosted the 4th Regional Workshop in Tirana as part of the ongoing project "Establishing Waste Management Associations in the Western Balkans".

This important initiative, supported by four organizations: Planktonium NGO (Skopje), Advocacy Training and Resource Center - ATRC (Prishtina), Ecodesign and Management Institute - EDMI (Tirana), and Dom - Green Home (Podgorica), is strengthening regional cooperation to tackle waste management and promote circular economy practices.

👉 Last April, a groundbreaking WBF-funded project enabled the publication of 130 scientific papers by young professionals in reputable scientific journals.

💪 Led by the Chamber of Nurses and Midwives of Prishtina, the initiative culminated in a major conference, where the most important findings were presented.

👏 We remain committed to supporting education and scientific research as key drivers for promoting large-scale regional cooperation.

This support will continue through the new grants of the 7th Call for Proposals,, with the winners to be announced in the coming days, as well as through other instruments such as the WBF Move Grants and the tailor-made fellowship program for scholars.

💸 "What happens after the funding runs out?"

This was the central question posed to all panelists at the Muse X Albania Exhibition, including our WBF-EU Joint Action Manager, Mr. Bisha. 🇪🇺

🧩 Together with other key donors such as RYCO and Keiretsu Forum, we engaged in a meaningful conversation on how to achieve sustainable funding for long-term arts and creative industries projects.

💪 On Friday, the Western Balkans Fund had the pleasure of hosting an informal gathering with some of our closest partners who played a key role in the successful organization of the Synergy Conference.

We were honored to welcome the Ambassadors of Japan🇯🇵 and the V4 countries 🇵🇱🇸🇰🇨🇿🇭🇺, along with representatives from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania and other valued partners.

In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, we expressed our sincere gratitude for the support provided.

👉 The meeting also served as an opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to deeper cooperation in the future, with the aim of transforming the WBF into a hub for initiatives, exchanges, and cultural and educational projects originating from the V4, Japan, and other partner countries.

👉 Lorena Jasharllari is one of the beneficiaries of the WBF Move Grants. A tech enthusiast involved with TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, Lorena benefited from an exchange at Loja Center for Balkan Cooperation in Tetovo.

🤝 During the exchange, Lorena delivered tailor-made presentations for young individuals who want to develop projects that drive both economic and digital growth within the region.

A developer of a startup that focuses on job matching, thanks to this grant, Lorena aims to expand the focus of her work at the regional level.

Thanks to a WBF Move Grant, Ms. Edlira Pajenga, a professor from "Aleksandër Xhuvani" University in Elbasan embarked on a 1-month professional exchange in Skopje and Ohrid.

🔬 Ms. Pajenga has dedicated her career to molecular cellular biology and is the author of several scientific research papers.

At Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje and the Hydrobiological Institute of Ohrid, she engaged in cutting-edge techniques analyzing environmental pollution. 🌿🧪

🚀 Many of our WBF Move projects are currently ongoing! This program, dedicated to individual mobility, has already benefited over 150 individuals, boosting exchange and cooperation across the region.

🧩 On this first anniversary, we renew our commitment on empowering civil society and promoting regional cooperation, as essential pillars on which sustainable growth and EU integration is based.

👉 Social Media, for over 50% of youth in Europe, is the primary or the only source of information.

🤝 This is why, especially in the times we are facing, literacy, critical thinking, and resilience against disinformation have become crucial for all of us.

🧩 Building on this principle, an extensive training on "Strengthening Media Literacy to Counter Disinformation on EU Integration Among Western Balkan Youth" took place earlier this month in Durrës.

This is part of a training that previously took place in Belgrade and Zabljak as well.

Important experts, through interactive sessions, focused on:

🔹 The impact of disinformation and hybrid threats on EU integration
🔹 How to develop policy papers to counter misinformation
🔹 Practical strategies for navigating today’s complex media landscape

In the framework of this project, Alfa Centar in Nikšić cooperated with:

👉 In Tirana, today, we hosted an inspiring workshop on "Crafting the Art of Pitching", bringing together key actors from the culture and creative industries.

👏 Through an engaging debate and presentation, participants refined their pitching skills, opening doors to new funding opportunities and greater visibility for their projects.

🧩 This initiative, organized in collaboration with AICS Tirana, is built on a fundamental belief: Investing in culture and creative industries is a direct investment in cooperation, employment, reconciliation, and ultimately, the well-being of entire communities.
