Sad to say that our wonderful time in Adelaide and Kangaroo Island has come to an end. As we sit here on the ferry back to Cape Jervis, we reminise on our time on the island. It was brilliant. The weather gods obliged and looked after us. We had a full on two days seeing Clifford's Honey Farm, Emu Ridge, Seal Bay, KI Wildlife Park and Raptor Domain, Flinders Chase National Park with Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's Arch. What a brilliant way to end the tour. Excited to see where Toowoomba Range Probus Club to choose to explore next year!

Sadly this is the last post from Sri Lanka, as we fly out at midnight tomorrow night. So here is the download from the last week...
We stopped at an incredible Batik factory in Matale and were shown the process to make the items using the waxing process. We took a guided tour of Regent Spice Gardens to learn all the medicinal uses of over 30 spices. Visiting D.M Gunarathna Maha Vidyalaya primary school was truly a heart warming experience. They are children living in a poor village and come from poor families. To see the smiles on their beautiful faces and greet us with flowers, perform dancing for us and show us through their classrooms, was life changing. Kandy is the cultural heart of Sri Lanka and we walked through the UNESCO World Heritage site of the iconic Temple of the Tooth Relic. We visited a silk shop in Kandy and learnt the art of scarf making and a gem factory. A tea factory processing tour was taken at the Kingswood Tea Factory, where they process the prestigious brand of Ceylon Tea. We boarded the scenic train from Nuwara Eliya station and crossed the famous 9-Arches Bridge. Our journey then took us from Ella to Galle, stopping for lunch in the beautiful seaside town of Mirissa. A guided sunset walk through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Galle city was truly beautiful. Our last visits today on our journey back to Colombo were the Ariyapala Mask Museum, an authentic 6th generation, 10 hectare Cinnamon Plantaion and Turtle Hatchery and conservation. Tonight we are at the luxurious Kingsbury Hotel. I have never in my travels seen a buffet and dessert selection quite like this one!!! Tomorrow morning will be a city tour of Colombo and farewell dinner before saying good-bye to this beautiful island nation tomorrow night. I am blessed to have experienced the past two weeks here, living and breathing the culture. Fingers crossed...I will return!

It has been a very big past few days. Made an offering at Sandahiru Seya Temple, visited the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree and some archaeological sites, like the oldest restaurant in the world.
We visited the Dambulla Cave Temple, which was extremely fascinating. Later that afternoon, we enjoyed an elephant safari through Minneriya National Park.
Today was a fantastic Tuk Tuk ride from our hotel, to the base of Sigiriya (Lion Rock). It is here that I endured the 1'200+ steps to the summit of the rock. What an incredible view from the top. Later this afternoon we took a tractor ride to a lake, to hop on a 'catamaran' (two wooden canoes with a slab of timber joining them together) to cruise the lake, before experiencing a local village lunch and demonstration.
Such a busy few days and still so much more to come!
