and conference events. My name is Sue Collins, I am a Leura Local who is proud to bring my love of the Blue Mountains to visitors. During the COVID lockdowns I took the opportunity to invest in my passion for Australian history with my two foundation tours, The Leura Story Walking Tour, and the Katoomb

a Story Walking Tour. This process has taught me to appreciate my village and how fortunate I am to call Leura home. Mountains Tales has grown to offer coach commentary tours for a variety of groups coming to the Blue Mountains; whether conference and events, social groups, or educational tours, I draw on my previous work experience to deliver the best experience for my groups. Having worked in Sydney in the corporate arena in Sales and HR, I understand what goes into a successful corporate getaway; time to chill, form connections, learn and have fun and laughter along the way. My private Social Group Day Trips are always full of laughter, no matter how many times you have visited the Blue Mountains, there are many stories to learn and enjoy, making for a memorable daytrip. My Educational Tours take me back to my childhood, as I learned the colonial stories of Sydney, and my family connection to our not-so distant past. Learning is achieved through storytelling and role play with the spectacular Blue Mountains as our classroom. During my tours I share the stories of the Blue Mountains, and a little of myself. My love for community; as a SES volunteer I enjoy giving back to my community in times of need, I am the coordinator of ANZAC Day services in Leura and involved in both Leura and Blue Mountains heritage committees. As a qualified adult educator, I know my guests will gain a better knowledge and understanding of the Blue Mountains. Gov Arthur Phillips called the northern mountains the Carmarthean Hills and the Southern mountains the Landsdowne Hills, but there is no date for when we became known as the Blue Mountains.

In July 1789, Captain John Hunter (later Governor Hunter) recorded in his diary "We frequently, in some of the reaches which we passed through this day, saw very near us the hills, which we suppose as seen from Port Jackson, and called by the governor ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž ๐Œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ฌ.โ€

Echo point has been an icon of Blue Mountains lookouts since council purchased the land from Lilianfels in 1908. The lookout was basic and accessed by horse and cart, or a good walk.

By the 1920's the idea of motoring whilst on holiday lead to the improvement of many roads, allowing access to our famous views. These two photos demonstrate the before and after of the roadwork, the beginning of the turning circle with is still present at Echo Point today.

What a beautiful and playful sketch of the Imperial Hotel in My Victoria.

This sketch was used in publicity of the 1880's demonstrating plenty of space to play and breathe, promoting the benefits of the hotel to the cramped Sydney-siders who were the most common visitors.

The Imperial Hotel was a huge success in the late Victorian period of Australian holiday travel, we all wonder what its future will be.

The Boys Catholic school opened on 7 Dec 1941, a date the world remembers as the Pearl Harbour attack.

The senior school was located where Katoomba Public School is now located. The junior school opened in 1947 at Clairvaux, where KCC holiday camp is now (near Scenic World)

The college offered boarders and day students all following the moto of "Virtue is the only nobility" The school closed in 1966.
