One of the things that has struck me most while travelling through Morocco is just how completely unique it feels.

The colours, craftsmanship and architecture are unlike anywhere else - from the warm ochre walls of Marrakech and intricate zellige tilework to handwoven textiles, carved cedar and the colourful souks.There’s such a beautiful sense of detail everywhere you look, with many of Morocco’s traditional crafts still being shaped by hand and passed down through generations.

It’s a destination that feels incredibly rich in character, where architecture, art and craftsmanship are so deeply connected to the place and its history.

As a part of PURE Life Experiences that I am currently attending in Marrakech, I joined the Community Project Hike to the remote village of Tadart Ait Bousaid, located in the Atlas Mountains. This is an area that was at the epicentre of the earthquake in 2023 when I was also in Morocco.

The Community Project Hike was our chance to see firsthand the work that Travel Link Foundation (TLF) is delivering for communities in this region. TLF has been restoring the local school and improving irrigation systems for year-round farming and to add to that, we planted 150 prickly pear trees, a resilient plant that can live in the arid conditions of the mountains.

We hiked through the surrounding landscapes and had the wonderful opportunity to meet members of the community, learn more about their traditions and everyday way of life and experience a side of Morocco that you simply don’t get from exploring the city alone.

It’s these kinds of experiences that I love most about travel - connecting with local communities, gaining a deeper understanding of a destination and seeing places through a different lens. A memorable morning and a great reminder of why travel is so much more than simply seeing a new place.

I’ve just touched down in my first destination of the trip - Marrakech and I’m excited to share some of my experiences whilst I’m here!

One of our favourite hotels here is La Villa Des Orangers - Tucked behind the ochre walls of the medina, Villa des Orangers is a beautiful oasis of calm, where traditional Moroccan architecture meets understated elegance. Think tranquil courtyards filled with orange trees, beautiful riads, serene pools and plenty of peaceful corners to retreat to after exploring the energy of Marrakech.

As a member of Relais & Châteaux - Association of unique hotels & restaurants, the culinary experience is also a highlight, with beautifully considered Moroccan-inspired cuisine adding another layer to the experience.

Perfectly located for discovering the city, yet wonderfully secluded, it’s the kind of place that makes slowing down feel effortless.

Next week, I’m off on an incredible adventure, spending the rest of the year doing what I love most - travelling!

While I’m away, it’s very much business as usual. I’ll be online every day and continuing to look after all of your travel plans, although my working hours will shift a little as I move through different time zones.

Having just visited Paris, our favourite way to enjoy this charming city is slowly - lingering over coffee, wandering beautiful streets, enjoying long lunches, finding a sunny spot for a picnic and leaving plenty of time to simply take it all in.

From mornings exploring neighbourhoods to afternoons spent by the Seine and evenings enjoying a glass of w**e, Paris is a city that rewards you for slowing down and embracing the moment.

There’s a certain magic and charm to Paris that makes even the simplest moments feel special.
