Heritage Expeditions us a New Zealand based family owned experience going to Antarctica.
Sometimes referred to as ‘the heart of Antarctica’, the Ross Sea region is the last great unspoiled part of the world’s oceans. To date there has only been minimal exploitation, and to enter this region of Antarctica is a privilege, with only a few hundred people able to visit each year.
The East Antarctic coastline is some of the most remote in the world and is locked under ice for most of the year. The rest of the time it is buffeted by strong katabatic winds coming off the polar ice cap. Wildlife is abundant during these brief summer months and includes Adélie and Emperor penguins, South Polar Skuas, Snow Petrels, Southern Fulmars and many more species of bird. Both whales and seals abound here at this time and can be found feeding in the rich waters around the ice edge.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to walk over the Queen Mary 2 while it was in Brisbane along with around 100 travel agents. This is the last liner built and is not a "cruise ship".

We saw an older demographic of passengers on board but there were children and there is a children's club to look after them. As the ship was almost full, we were only able to see a couple of suites which showed off the special luxury of Cunard.

Due to the weather, we did not see much of the outside decks other than the upper deck sign and the covered pool, but saw many of the bars and lounges, plus the library which had over 10000 books available.

Following a sales presentation, we had a fantastic lunch in the Brittania restaurant before disembarking.
