The Whalesharks here on the Nyinggulu often don’t mind the presence of vessels and swimmers around them, however occasionally we’ll turn the engines off when waiting to find sharks to make as minimal impact as possible.

Today was one of these situations - but just moments after our skipper, Brandon, turned off our vessel’s engines and electronics this curious young Whaleshark made a direct swim towards the boat to check it out!! It was an incredible experience for all involved as the Whaleshark swam directly past our group, under the marlin board and continued on its way!

We swam with a 2 metre long whaleshark today! What an incredible experience for today’s guests - it’s rare we see whalesharks so small down here on the Nyinggulu, but this particular male was also seen on the reef around the same time last year despite only being an estimated 2-3 years of age!
