Yes, whale sharks are still around in September.

We know a lot of people hear "late season" and think they have missed the window completely. Not quite. Ningaloo is still active, our tours are still heading out, and whale sharks are still part of the conversation.

Whale sharks are the reason so many people first fall in love with Ningaloo.

The size gets your attention first. Then the spots, the slow movement, the way everyone goes quiet for a second, and the fact that this giant fish is filtering tiny food from the water as it moves through the blue.

For International Whale Shark Day, we are celebrating the animal that has shaped so many Best Day Ever stories on this coast, and the careful, respectful way we get to meet them.

Whale Sharking does not stop in August!

September can still be a beautiful time to be on Ningaloo, and our statistics show a 94.3% success rate for our shoulder season (September and October) which is only a 2% decrease from our peak season of March - August 🤩

Some reef days have a feeling you can see before anyone even gets back to shore.

It is the quiet grin after a swim, the tired-happy look on the boat, the little pockets of conversation, and that moment where guests start replaying what just happened while they are still salty.

Dugongs are one of those quieter animals people hope to see around seagrass country. They are often described as gentle-looking, slow-moving marine mammals, and they are a good reminder that the reef story is not only about the biggest or loudest moments.

Sometimes a whale shark moving through the blue says enough on its own: the spots, the scale, the slow feeling of the whole moment.

Some of our favourite Ningaloo moments happen twice.

First, out on the water when everyone is salty, excited and trying to take it all in. Then again later, when the photos arrive and the whole feeling comes back.

What you do not always see is the work after the boat gets home: photographers sitting behind laptops well into the night, sorting, editing and getting those memories back to guests while the day is still fresh.

For World Photography Day, we are very grateful for the people who help turn big reef days into memories guests can keep.

Some days, the reef gives you a different kind of visitor.

Dolphins move through Ningaloo with that easy, clever confidence that makes everyone on the boat stop what they are doing for a second. They are fast, social, curious-looking animals, and every glimpse feels like a little bonus from the day.

As always, the best encounters are the ones we do not force. We watch, enjoy the moment, and let them keep moving on their terms.
