The Men Who Helped Build the Australian Outback

Before trucks and highways...

Australia relied on camels.

Thousands of skilled cameleers crossed the deserts carrying supplies to remote communities, helping build the Overland Telegraph and supporting explorers, miners, and settlers.

Their contribution helped shape modern Australia, yet many people have never heard their story.

🐪🏆 POLISHED COPPER WINS BOULIA CUP 🏆🐪

🥇 Polished Copper, ridden by jockey Emily Parrott from near Newcastle, has claimed this year's Boulia Cup.

It was an emotional win for Ms Parrott, who said she'd been chasing victory with Polished Copper for several years. The camel finished second in 2025.

🥈 Second place went to Regi.
🥉 Third place went to Geoffry.

🏆Regi won the 400m final.
Jockey: Bryce Mullane
Trainer: Peter Hodge, Peter Hodge Camels

Organisers of this year's iconic Boulia Camel Races estimate around 3,000 people attended across the weekend. While not a record-breaking crowd, it was a welcome sight after a slow start to the Channel Country tourist season.
