'Savuti' is a Subiya word meaning 'mystery': a quality often attributed to the geological marvel that is the Savuti Channel in Botswana's Linyanti region.

Elephants pad along the channel, lechwe and sitatunga linger by the water, rare roan and sable hide in the adjacent thickets, and Savuti's famous lions – the Channel Pride – patrol the dry land all along the 100-kilometre stretch.
