Indian Ocean Islands: Kuala Lumpur

We had a 10-hour stopover in KL on our way home.

We had wanted to go up the Petronas Towers but, no tickets available until the next day.

So, instead, we had some great food and it was nice to re-visit some places we haven't seen for a long time.

Indian Ocean Islands: Seychelles, Praslin Island

The past few days have been spent on Praslin Island with a day trip out to Curieuse Island to see the free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises, dramatic red-earth landscape, and native Coco de Mer palms. We did a nature walk across the island, through the mangrove swamps.

We finished the day trip with a short snorkel. Now onto the next island - La Digue.🙂

Indian Ocean Islands: Madagascar

Our last day in Madagascar today and we visited The UNESCO World Heritage site -
The Royal Hill of Ambohimanga which consists of a royal city and burial site.

We passed through large, picturesque farming lands where the green of the rice paddies are a stark contrast to the red soil and brick/mud houses.

Indian Ocean Islands: Madagascar, Morondava

A short flight today to Morondava with an afternoon trip out to the Avenue of the Baobabs to watch the sunset.

It was such a surreal setting and the sunset didn't dissapoint.

Plus a couple of shots of our accommodation for the night.

Indian Ocean Islands: Madagascar, Andasibe National Park, Lemurs Island & a Chameleon Park.

A day trip (a long day trip, around 14 hours) from Antananarivo to see Lemurs and chameleons plus a few other animals.

The drive to and from Andasibe national park was interesting. Again, the main road had many obstacles to constantly have to avoid, huge chunks of the road missing, people walking, cyclists, hand wheeled carts, motorbikes and so many trucks along with vehicles just parked taking up a whole lane as you come around a bend or in a village. Our driver did an amazing job, especially on the way back in the dark. This is the main road to the Port, so there is a constant line of trucks navigating windy, mountain roads.

But, it was well worth the long day to see Lemurs & chameleons in the wild as well as more Lemurs in a rescue park (some people keep them as pets for a while) & chameleons, geckos & huge moths in a park.

I could watch Lemurs all day, they are hilarious.

Indian Ocean Islands: Madagascar, Antananarivo

After flight delays leaving the Comoros Islands we arrived at our Antanarivo hotel at 4:30am. We had a few hours sleep and then headed out to explore the city, heading people's advice around staying safe. There's a lot of petty crime and tourists are a big target.

We took a taxi up the winding, hilly streets to the Queen's Palace fairly high up. It was so peaceful once inside the castle grounds. There is a great museum style exhibit inside the palace & interesting stories around the history.

From the palace, we started the walk down to the lake, using a staircase following the stations of the cross. The lake up close seems to have had better days and there was no way inside the lake fence.

We then explored more of the city.

Antanarivo has a lot of character and is a bustling city from early hours of the morning. Things are looking a little tired up close and you can see the impact that recent years of political issues has had with a number of people living on the street.
