👀 Useful descriptions and photos for connector stages 🇸🇮

Dear users of FULL navigation packages for Slovenia, you have probably already noticed the request for an upgrade in the Ride with GPS app 📲. All connector stages to Austria and Italy now also have descriptions with useful tips and links, as well as photos, to make it easier for you to decide which road to take. Each of those stages also has information about the surface, distance and elevation gain, as well as many useful POI points 📍

BASIC package users can get the same information on the website 👉 (see 'connector stages' for Slovenia).

📍 New suggested accommodation: Herzegovina Lodges (stage 3 in Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Many guests choose a day to rest after the second stage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Mostar. But when you see this, you will want to pedal one more (demanding, but beautiful 🤠) stage to Boračko Lake and stay at Herzegovina Lodges. They are located 🗺️ on the southern edge of the lake, above them there are only forests and mountains 🌲. And if you also like traditional homemade food 🍲, order your dinner in advance and when you arrive, the smell from Goga and Elmir's pots will be so tempting that you will have to sit at the table first, and only then go for a swim 🏊‍♀️. Well, you can also do it tomorrow 🙃

☑️ They have a secure bike garage, the possibility of charging e-bikes, laundry service; for accommodation, you can choose rooms or apartments. Now you know 😎

🧐 Remember voting on which bike Mat Ryder should choose for the Trans Dinarica? Well, last week Mat 🚵‍♂️and his friend Bill 🚵 from the USA, both are experienced bikepackers, made it from Munich to Slovenia and this is their first report 🎬

👉 They followed a new connector stage through Kranjska Gora, Bled and Bača river valley to Tolmin in the Soča Valley, where the TD begins.

Dear all,
Today we are showing you something that we have been hiding for three years. Why? Because we did not want anything to happen to anyone. In 2023, the Pale - Sarajevo section on the old Ćiro railway 🚂 was deadly dangerous 😳. At that time, we heard rumors about the renovation, but we thought that it was light years away.
But the people of Sarajevo rolled up their sleeves 💪 and prepared a real cycling fairy tale, which is already available in the Trans Dinarica navigation pack 📲 for Bosnia and Herzegovina. And now, the fun part:

this Monday, June 8th at 11:00 AM, the official opening of the section with a well-maintained gravel 🚲 path, safe fences and even illuminated tunnels will take place in the Olympic Park in Pale. That's on the TD stage 10 from Sokolac to Sarajevo! Anyone who is nearby, please go and give them a round of applause on our behalf! 👏👏👏

📍 New suggested accommodation: Hotel & Restaurant Alkar 🏠, Sinj 🇭🇷

First, and perhaps most important piece of information: Hotel Alkar offers van transfers 🚐 to/from Split upon request! This is super useful for anyone starting or ending their TD adventure in Split and would like to avoid a less romantic connector stage - especially from Split up to Sinj in the summer heat 🥵. Second: the hotel has a secure bike garage with basic tools, in case you bring your bike in a box and need a place to prepare it for the trip 🚵‍♂️

👉 And here are the accommodation details: there are 55 air-conditioned rooms, two of their own restaurants 🥪 with local and international cuisine, a POOL 🏊‍♀️, and a location right in the heart of Sinj.

We're happy to see the list of proven and cyclist-friendly accommodations grow longer 😎

Top 5 sights in Montenegro 📷

The official tourism website of Montenegro has published a nice article about the five most beautiful spots along the Trans Dinarica in their country. As befits a country with 'monte' 🏔️ in its name, these sights are:

- a mountain pass,
- a valley,
- a mountain lake,
- a plateau and...
- a bridge over a canyon 🙃

BTW, just yesterday we received an email from a cyclist who went from Slovenia to Turkey, and he highlighted the stage from Žabljak to Kolašin (via Sinjajevina) as one of his favorite days 🚵‍♂️

You probably already saw it in our Trans Dinarica Travelers Group, but all stages in Montenegro 🏔️ are passable since last week! (stages Trsa - Žabljak and Žabljak - Kolašin). However, if you have time, take a day off in Žabljak and ride in the opposite direction of the alternative stage to the viewpoint for Sušica Canyon, it's beautiful! 😎

🧐 FYI, this exact photo was taken on MAY 11, 2024. The snow really lasted a long time in 2026 ⛄️! On the other hand, we now have very summer temperatures ☀️ (at least in Slovenia), so make sure you get up early and stay hydrated 🍼

🧐 Why is it important to tell locals (and the internet!) about Trans Dinarica❓

This week we added quite a few POIs 📍 to the navigation package: accommodations (one even brand new - near Kalinovik) and bike services with which you have had good experiences. Some of them were suggested by you yourself (by email, in the comments of the FB TD Travelers group...), and two came to us in less usual way:

👉 because we regularly browse🕵️‍♀️ what is written around the world about TD, we found the keyword 'trans dinarica' in a very positive comment on an accommodation on booking.com platform,

👉 we were contacted by the owner of a small mountain hut, who was told about TD by a cyclist, and is happy to host more of them (he was even interested in what special services or food cyclists might need).

We think this is a good example of the positive impact of the route on the region, and at the same time an excellent (slow but persistent 💪) increase in the quality of the navigation package itself.

(Although it is 'only' an upgrade of points, communication and editing takes quite a bit of our time and we would like to thank everyone who rewards this work by purchasing up-to-date navigation packages 🗺️)

As we wrote in the last e-news: NOW is the best time to do it. GO! 🚵‍♀️

📍 New suggested accommodation: Grand Chamois Hotel 🏠, Mavrovo 🇲🇰

Grand Chamois Hotel opened in September 2024, just a month after the launch of Trans Dinarica. Located just 1.5 kilometers from the famous partially submerged church in Lake Mavrovo 🚣‍♂️, it has its own bike storage 🚲 with the possibility of charging e-bikes.

It hosts all kinds of travellers, from cyclists and hunters to guests who come to the mountain air to pamper themselves in the sauna or ice bath. They also have their own a-la-carte restaurant, which offers everything from simple burgers, pasta and pizza to top-notch local specialties 🍽️

If you want to pamper yourself a little or relax after a day trip 🚵‍♂️ to the village of Galičnik (extremely beautiful cycling, highly recommended!), it is worth remembering 😎
