🔔 BASIC pack users: DO NOT SKIP reading the stage descriptions 🗺

While FULL package users have all the information (navigation & descriptions & more) gathered in the palm of their hand 📱, when using the BASIC package there is a possibility of skipping a very important step in planning your route.

In one country there can be:

✅ a main route,
✅ a secondary route,
✅ alternative suggestions within individual stages,
✅ and even connector stages,

so it is essential that when getting ready for your trip you understand the sequence of individual stages and choose (load) the right ones 😉

If you just load on your Garmin and click 'GO', your smart device can take you somewhere you don't want to be ❌

Therefore: on the website, you have a map 🗺 with clickable stages and descriptions of individual stages (itinerary), which are numbered in the same way as in the basic navigation package.

This example shows the connector stage from Vilach in Austria to Tolmin in Slovenia.

Let's talk about GRAVEL! ✋

We knew it would happen, but didn't expect it so soon. While it's a matter of months until the Trans Dinarica in Albania will be 100% asphalted 👷, you are also informing us about the asphalting of sections in Bosnia and Herzegovina (thank you for that). For example, they recently asphalted the road to Prokoško Lake (photo is from 2023) 🚧

What are your thoughts on this? The locals are probably mostly happy, at least those who use those roads to go to work or school. On the other side, better roads also mean better accessibility and more tourists (in cars, vans, buses 🚌).

And cyclists, do you like gravel? 🚵 Does it bother you when it gets rough? From which stage do you have good and maybe not-so-good memories? (we sense a debate about the section between Blidinje Lake and Mostar 🙃 )

ℹ New suggested accommodation: Joen Village, stage 10 in Albania 📌

🧐 Definitely save this one! Accommodation options are very limited 🔍 on the beautiful stretch between stage 8 and 10 in Albania, between Peshkopi and Librazhd.

You’ll find JOEN Village in Fushe Studen in Shebenik National Park, 'only' one long climb 🚵‍♂️ ahead of the planned finish of the previous stage in Sebisht. They offer two villas, each with two double rooms and two family rooms, a total of 8 rooms, which can accommodate up to 24 guests.

And for all you solo travelers, sharing rooms is also available at a more affordable price. And since you’re a hungry cyclist, you’ll be happy to know that breakfast 🍽️ is included in your stay in Joen Village, while they also serve traditional local dishes for lunch or dinner 🍲. 🔝roads on Trans Dinarica 🚵

These are not ALL of the most beautiful roads on the Trans Dinarica. These are the ones that stuck in our memory and we managed to capture on camera 🎥

These are roads with views 🌄 that you have to work for. But after all the ‘type 2 fun’ comes a victorious feeling of satisfaction. "I did it. And I want more!" ✊

Fall in love with the mountain roads. With your strong legs. With the nature around you. And with the people who reward you with strong black coffee ☕ or a hearty home-cooked meal 🍽

⚠ Important: roadworks at stage 11 in Albania 🚧

We received a message from a cyclist that a new highway is being built on the section from Librazhd towards Lake Ohrid. Our local partner went to check the situation and found that although traffic is not blocked, it is very inconvenient for cyclists. Therefore, we have added a warning on the website for stages 9-10-11 (it will also be updated to the FULL navigation package soon) with two possible solutions:

➡ in Librazhd, look for a bus transfer to Perrenjas or Struga or Pogradec (depending on your route)
➡ Two stages earlier, from Peshkopi, choose the route via Debar to Struga (Lake Ohrid) - which is a shame, because stages 9 and 10 in Albania are very beautiful.

The third option is to tackle a 20-kilometer dusty adventure 😷

Last call: guided tour in Slovenia 🇸🇮 and Croatia 🇭🇷

This post is for those who want to skip the hassle of finding airport transfers 🚐, assembling bikes 🚲, finding accommodation 🛌 and meals 🍽 along the way.

Because people - and we, cyclists are people - are different 🚴‍♀️🚴

That's why it's great that the Trans Dinarica is available in different levels and this guided tour, organized by the official Slovenian Tour Operator Visit GoodPlace, is the most comfortable way to experience the route. Which doesn't mean that the route will be easy. YOU will still have to pedal 😜

The 9-day guided adventure covers the part from Tolmin, Slovenia, to Senj, Croatia.

💡 If the date doesn't suit you, consider a self-guided tour, which is cheaper and allows more freedom in choosing dates and also in flying over the landscape during the day.

If you see an unusual road loop on the Trans Dinarica... it probably makes sense 🤓 For example, the route on the Postojna - Ilirska Bistrica (Feel Slovenia) stage illogically turns east. But when you leave the main road and push your pedals uphill towards the forests below Mt. Snežnik, you quickly understand why. Hello forests, nice gravel roads and also some dreamy views from the karst meadows. Yes, there is a shorter way, but... Why? 💚

Anyone who is hungry should ride to Mašun(marked as a POI); they also have accommodation 🥘🏠

And why were we on there again? We cycled the stage, one could say a reference stage for the TD, in the company of journalist Jan Grilc from the most listened radio station in Slovenia, Val 202. He was interested in Trans Dinarica and also paving the way for cycling tourism in the municipality of Ilirska Bistrica. We look forward to the report! 📻

It's nice to see that things are developing in the right direction along the red line on the digital map 🗺️

Travelers need somewhere to sleep and eat 🏠 - as a result, locals have jobs. This way, (young) people can stay in their beautiful, but sometimes economically not the easiest environments, instead of looking for work around the world. Thank you to the cyclists who understand and support this. We need each other more than we think 🤝
