ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে “বিএফটিআই-টিএইচএম সেন্টার ফর রিসার্চ অন ট্যুরিজম” নামে একটি গবেষণাধর্মী পর্যটন সেন্টার প্রতিষ্ঠার জন্য আজ ২ অক্টোবর ২০১৩ বুধবার ট্যুরিজম এন্ড হসপিটালিটি বিভাগ এবং বাংলাদেশ ফরেন ট্রেড ইনস্টিটিউটের মধ্যে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষরিত হয়। ট্যুরিজম এন্ড হসপিটালিটি বিভাগের পক্ষে বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যান অধ্যাপক ড. মুজিব উদ্দিন আহমেদ এবং বাংলাদেশ ফরেন ট্রেড ইনস্টিটিউটের পক্ষে ইনস্টিটিউটের প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা ড. মো: মজিবর রহমান এই সমঝোতা চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করেন।

বিজনেস স্টাডিজ অনুষদ মিলনায়তনে অনুষ্ঠিত এই চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসাবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রী জনাব মোহাম্মদ গোলাম কাদের এমপি এবং বিশেষ অতিথি ছিলেন বেসামরিক বিমান ও পর্যটন মন্ত্রী জনাব মুহাম্মদ ফারুক খান এমপি, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. আ আ ম স আরেফিন সিদ্দিক, বাণিজ্য অনুষদের ডিন অধ্যাপক ড. শিবলী রুবাইয়াতুল ইসলাম এবং বাংলাদেশ ট্যুরিজম বোর্ডের প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা জনাব আকতারুজ্জামান খান কবির।

সমঝোতা চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরের পর “ট্যুরিজম বাংলাদেশ : অপরচুনিটিজ এন্ড চ্যালেঞ্জেস” শীর্ষক মূল প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন বিএফটিআই-এর ফেলো জনাব শোয়েব আখতার।

প্রধান অতিথির ভাষণে বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রী জনাব মোহাম্মদ গোলাম কাদের এমপি বলেন, বাংলাদেশ পর্যটন শিল্পের এক অপার সম্ভাবনাময় দেশ। বাংলাদেশে পর্যটন শিল্পের উন্নয়ন ও প্রসারে কাজ করার অনেক সুযোগ রয়েছে। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ট্যুারিজম এন্ড হসপিটালিটি বিভাগের পাশাপাশি এই নতুন পর্যটন গবেষণা কেন্দ্র বাংলাদেশের ট্যুরিজম সেক্টরের উন্নয়নে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে বলে মন্ত্রী আশা প্রকাশ করেন।

বেসামরিক বিমান ও পর্যটন মন্ত্রী জনাব মুহাম্মদ ফারুক খান এমপি পর্যটন শিল্পের উন্নয়নের জন্য বাংলাদেশ ফরেন ট্রেড ইনস্টিটিউটের সহযোগিতায় ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে যে পর্যটন কেন্দ্র স্থাপন হতে যাচ্ছে সেজন্য উভয় প্রতিষ্ঠানের কর্তৃপক্ষকে ধন্যবাদ জানিয়ে বলেন, তাঁর মন্ত্রণালয় এই কেন্দ্রের গবেষণা কার্যক্রমে সার্বিক সহযোগিতা প্রদান করবে।

উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. আ আ ম স আরেফিন সিদ্দিক বলেন, পর্যটন শিল্পকে এগিয়ে নিতে হলে আমাদের পর্যটন বান্ধব মন-মানসিকতা দরকার। দেশের মানুষকে অভ্যন্তরীণ পর্যটনে উদ্বুদ্ধ করতে হবে। আমাদের দেশে অপরাজনীতির কারণে পর্যটন শিল্পের উন্নয়ন সম্ভব হচ্ছে না এবং এই সহিংস রাজনীতির কারণে বিদেশী পর্যটকরা বাংলাদেশকে নিরাপদ মনে করছে না। তাই পর্যটন শিল্পকে এগিয়ে নিতে হলে আমাদের সকলকে সহনশীল হতে হবে।
