Salt Lake Temple: 40 Years Building A Monolithic Masterpiece from Oxen to Railroad & Mormon History - ⁨⁩

The Salt Lake Temple is Utah's most recognizable architectural landmark, and a visit to Temple Square gave me a close look at the craftsmanship, history, and design surrounding this massive monzonite quartz structure.

Construction began in 1853 and took 40 years to complete, with stone quarried from Little Cottonwood Canyon in the nearby Wasatch Mountains. The world changed so much during the construction of Salt Lake Temple that the first shipment of Quartz showed up by Oxen and the last shipment showed up by Train.

The cathedral design features soaring spires, intricate stonework, and carved symbols depicting the sun, moon, stars, and other details. A gilded statue of Moroni crowns the tallest spire, while the temple’s exterior restoration and seismic upgrades have been major parts of the extensive renovation that began in 2020. These renovations will allow the building to move freely underground without damage when an eventual earthquake hits this area of the United States. This is an architectural marvel made out of zero structural steel.

Across Temple Square, gardens and statues add detail. While a scale model inside the new Visitors’ Center offers a look at the temple’s intricate interior layout.

The nearby Salt Lake Tabernacle is another architectural highlight, with its enormous historic pipe organ, which features 11,623 pipes and has accompanied performances for generations.

The temple will welcome the public for free interior tours when construction is complete from April through October 2027. The site offers a look at exquisite engineering, stone craftsmanship, and the history of Utah’s most famous building. I will be back in 2027 to go inside the newly completed updates to the Salt Lake Temple.

Great Basin National Park's 5,000 Year Old Bristlecone Pines The Oldest Non-Clonal Life On Earth! - ⁨⁩

The Bristlecone Pine Trail at Great Basin National Park leads into the Wheeler Peak Bristlecone Grove, where the Oldest Non-Clonal life on Earth thrives among the rocks beneath the mountain peak. The 2.8 mile hike starts at the top of Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, climbing through a forested trail before reaching the grove at nearly 10,000 feet in elevation.

Great Basin Bristlecone Pines range from younger trees to ancient trees around 3,000 to 5,000 years old, with some potentially older. Their twisted trunks, exposed roots, and sparse strips of living bark create remarkable shapes formed by centuries of wind, snow, cold, and drought. These trees survive in conditions where other species go extinct, growing so slowly that some years there is very little new growth. Their ability to keep living even when much of the trunk has died is one of the reasons they can endure for thousands of years.

Among the living trees is a graveyard in Bristlecone Pine Grove of the fallen dead trees scattered across the mountain. One fallen tree started growing around 1300 BC and died around 1700 AD, and it remains intact centuries later a survivor of time. The cold, dry environment and the wood’s resistance to decay preserve these remains long after the trees stop living, making the grove feel like an archive of ancient history.
The grove was also home to Prometheus, a bristlecone pine estimated to have been about 4,900 years old when it was unfortunately cut down in 1964 during scientific research.

Great Basin is now easily one of my favorite National Parks. Go see these Bristlecone Pines! Walking around the grove, I couldn’t leave, I spent a few hours just hanging out with the oldest living beings on Earth. The Bristlecone Pines have survived and continue to strive through most of the recorded events in human history. Absolutely breathtaking.

From Ancient Lake Bonneville to Today’s Great Salt Lake in Salt Lake City Utah -

Walking along the shoreline at Great Salt Lake State Park in Utah, I got an up close look at one of World’s most unusual natural wonders, the massive inland lake famous for its salty water and crazy buoyancy. Also famous for hearing about it non stop in both Science and Social Studies classes in school.

The salt concentration is several times higher than the ocean.. we all float here.

The lake you see today is a remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville, an enormous freshwater lake that formed during the Ice Age and once covered 20,000 square miles across parts of Utah, Nevada, and Idaho. At its greatest size, Lake Bonneville had depths over 1,000 feet deep before a flood in Idaho caused its water level to drop dramatically.

As the climate became drier, the lake continued to shrink until Great Salt Lake emerged as the smaller, salty remnant left behind. Great Salt Lake State Park, which opened in 1978, showcases views of this forever changing landscape.

Pepper’s Ghost The Spiciest Cocktail Around Is At AbracadaBar Magician Lounge on Disney's BoardWalk -

AbracadaBar brings drinking to the golden age of Magicians. This spot is on Disney’s BoardWalk at Walt Disney World, with the lounge inspired by Magicians and Illusionists during the 1930s.

Opened in July 2016, this bar’s theme is a speakeasy where magicians meet after their shows to drink, exchange tricks, and invent unusual cocktails. Inside you’ll find electronic show posters, vintage magic props, and mysterious mirrors. The food menu has Crispy Wings with Yuzu and Black Pepper, Lump Crab Fries, and Artisan Cheeses, while the drink selection has crazy concoctions with names inspired by magic and illusion.

Today’s Finds…Pepper’s Ghost with SKYY Pineapple Vodka, So much Habanero, and Lime. This drink is instantly the most spicy I have ever had. The flavor is great with tons of pineapple hitting you before the Habanero debilitates all of your senses and puts you under duress. I was sweating like it was triple overtime.

Go try the Pepper’s Ghost or more importantly go visit the AbracadaBar and get crunk like the Magicians used to.

I know a few homies in particular that would love this place!

Let's Eat Utah’s Legendary Burgers, Hot Dogs, Cheese Fries, and Sugar Cane Root B**r at Hires Big H! -

A Salt Lake City tradition since 1959, Hires Big H has been serving up classic drive in burgers for generations, earning a loyal following and a reputation as Utah’s must visit burger spot. With decades of history behind every order and a family legacy spanning three generations, Hires Big H delivers the kind of old school Americana dining experience that keeps locals coming back and gives burger fans a reason to stop in and decide if it deserves the title of the best burger in Utah.

Today’s Finds…. Frosty Mug Of Root B**r with Real Sugarcane. Real Sugarcane drinks are the best, hit me with some sugar. This Root B**r was great and free refills on the house made drink.

Extreme Cheese Fries… These diner style French fries are coated heavily in cheese , if all the fries are stuck together it's just one fry.

The Country H - One large Big H Burger Patty with Bacon on a toasted bun with ketchup and mustard. This burger is great, a perfect diner burger with a fresh toasted bun. Best burger in Utah?

Cheese Dog - A huge sliced in half hot dog toasted with the bun for a perfect snappy bite. A delicacy everywhere.

It’s easy to see why this spot is an Utah staple and a Family Tradition of many a Utahn.
