👻 A little Halloween history from Edinburgh, Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

On my visit to Greyfriars Kirkyard, I stopped to leave a stick for Greyfriars Bobby, the famously loyal dog said to have spent 14 years guarding his owner's grave. Sweet story, right?

Well, the rest of this centuries-old cemetery has a decidedly spookier side!

There are iron cages (mortsafes) built to protect graves from body snatchers, centuries-old headstones, and even the supposed resting place of the infamous Mackenzie Poltergeist, one of Edinburgh's most notorious ghost legends.

I wandered through Greyfriars Kirkyard myself, and there's definitely something spooky about the atmosphere. It's easy to see how the place inspired so many ghost stories!

Swipe through for a look at one of Edinburgh's most fascinating (and allegedly haunted!) historic sites.

🎃 Happy Halloween!

Beach chairs are great. But there's a whole world beyond them! 🌎🐒

From curious monkeys in the Amazon to exploring places you never imagined visiting, there's so much to discover when you try a different kind of vacation.

Maybe your next trip is the perfect time to get a little adventurous!

Ready to explore the possibilities? Let's talk! (Link in bio.)

Exploring the Amazon, one boat ride at a time! 🚤

When people think about visiting the Amazon, I think they sometimes picture rugged jungle expeditions and really challenging hikes. But there are plenty of ways to experience this incredible part of the world without going to those extremes. Sometimes you can just sit back on a boat, take in the scenery, and watch for wildlife along the river.

Would exploring the Amazon by boat be on your travel wish list?

I love the big sights and bucket-list experiences as much as anyone, but it's often these unexpected little moments that stick with me long after a trip is over.

What's a small moment from your travels that you'll never forget?

Most people know this area for Monet's beautiful gardens, but there's more to this little corner of Normandy than its famous flowers! 🇫🇷

I loved exploring the French countryside by e-bike. Beautiful scenery, fresh air, and a little exercise without feeling like I was training for the Tour de France.

Would you try an e-bike tour on your next European vacation?

Apparently, I have two very different vacation personalities. 🙃

I love a good adrenaline rush, but I also appreciate a leisurely afternoon at a rooftop bar with a cocktail in hand.

And really, why should I have to choose?

Some of my favorite vacations have been the ones where I've spent the day exploring, trying something new, or pushing myself a little outside my comfort zone, followed by a great dinner, a comfortable bed, and maybe another cocktail.

As much as I love the excitement of a new adventure, I also love slowing down and enjoying where I am. For me, the best vacations have room for both.

How about you? Are you more adventure, relaxation, or a little of both?

True story! ⬆️

When it comes to adventure travel, everyone's comfort level is different. And one tour company's idea of "easy" might be another company's "moderate."

That's why I look beyond the itinerary when helping clients choose a tour. Activity levels, group sizes, daily pacing, and accommodations all matter. The goal is to find a trip that's adventurous enough to be exciting, but still enjoyable for YOU.

Now, be honest. Would you cross this bridge, or turn around? 😂

🌴 Some of my favorite things about Costa Rica have absolutely nothing to do with the beach.

Don't get me wrong, Costa Rica has some gorgeous beaches. But some of my favorite experiences there have been nowhere near the ocean.

I'm talking about walking through lush rainforests, crossing hanging bridges high above the forest floor, spotting howler monkeys in the trees, and soaking in natural hot springs surrounded by tropical greenery.

And yes, that last one is me, happily doing absolutely nothing in a hot spring. 😂

What I love about Costa Rica is that you can fill your days with incredible experiences and still come back to a beautiful eco-lodge or boutique resort, enjoy a great meal, and relax.

It's a perfect example of what I call "soft adventure travel." You get to explore, experience nature, and try something new without feeling like you need a vacation to recover from your vacation!

If Costa Rica has been on your wish list, I'd love to help you plan a trip that balances adventure with a little indulgence.

Would I send my own kid on a Contiki trip? 🤔🌎 As the mom of a high school senior who's getting ready to spread his wings, this question is becoming a lot more personal!

So when I had the opportunity to experience a Contiki trip through Ecuador, I decided to find out for myself what these trips for 18- to 35-year-olds are really like.

Waterfall canyoning? Check. Whitewater rafting? Check. New friendships with travelers from around the world? Absolutely.

But I also came home with a few surprises, especially when it came to the balance between independence, adventure, and having someone else handle the logistics.

And yes, I had some questions about Contiki's reputation as a "party tour" before I went. 😉

So, would I feel comfortable sending my own son on one of these trips?

I wrote about my experience (both as a travel advisor AND a mom) on our agency's blog. Read the full story here: https://www.moderntravelprofessionals.com/post/would-i-send-my-own-kid-on-a-contiki-trip
