Whether you are based in Kasane, Botswana (near Chobe National Park) and looking for a high-energy day trip, or you have a long weekend to spare in Victoria Falls Town, Zimbabwe, experiencing the "Smoke that Thunders" is an absolute bucket-list adventure.
Zimbabwe Side (Highly Recommended): This side offers roughly 75% of the waterfall's frontal width and features about 16 distinct viewpoints along a scenic footpath. It has better tourist facilities and is the primary choice for Kasane day-trippers.
You'll typically depart your Kasane lodge around 7:00 AM. It's a 20-minute drive to the Kazungula Border post for emigration formalities, followed by another 45–60 minutes of driving to the entrance of the Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe. After exploring, you'll have lunch in Victoria Falls Town before heading back to Kasane in the late afternoon.
Visa: Fees vary by nationality—expect to pay around $30 USD for a single-entry visa or up to $100 USD for certain nationalities. Pay in cash at the border.
Park Entry: You must pay a conservation fee to enter the falls, which is roughly $50 USD per person. Pro tip: Always check if your tour package includes these fees, as many do not.
