Just before sunrise, our tracker from Mashatu Tented camp spotted this amazing creature. Chameleons - mystical and magical! There name is derived from the Ancient Greek word - khamaileon which means “ground lion” or “earth lion”. Go figure.

Every time I see them, I am taken aback by the their appearance. Their evolution spans some 20 million years, transforming small deer-like forest ancestors into the tallest living land mammals. Driven by climate shifts and changing food sources, the linage split into unique forms like the modern Giraffe that we see today and the Okapi. March and April are stunning months to travel to Botswana to get stunning cloud backgrounds to the imagery.

From the Genus: Tragelaphus - spiral-horned antelopes, a Greater Kudu pauses momentarily in the Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. These woodland browsers are just magnificent with the males carrying stunning spiralled horns. They are to be found in Southern and East Africa.
