When visiting the Cayman Islands… 🌴 🏖️ 🥥

The Cayman Islands are lovely. Dubbed the culinary capital of the Caribbean, with 365 unique dive sites, and gorgeous beaches, there is no shortage of adventure, or relaxation, to be had!

If you are planning a visit, here are a couple of things to keep in mind!

1. The Cayman Islands is a British territory.

2. USD is accepted almost everywhere on the island, so need to worry about local currency.

3. They drive on the left, so please be extra cautious crossing the road.

4. Please use crosswalks!! Approach, press the button, ensure the cars have stopped and then cross. There are approximately 15 crosswalks, and a stoplight in the main port. Do not just step off the curb to cross.

5. Grand Cayman is fairly conservative, please dress with respect!! This is not just a tourist spot, people live and work here.

6. It’s almost always HOT!! Please drink water and wear sunscreen!

7. UBER/LYFT do not operate on the island. There are lots of taxi’s near the port. All hotels will have numbers for taxi services. Almost all taxi’s will take USD and local cash and most take credit cards. It is best to double check the form of payment before getting in the taxi.

8. Buses are not formal and small (really a large van). Be cautious when taking the bus, as you may not have that same option to get back to the port or your hotel. I recommend taking taxi’s over the buses.

9. All beaches are public! Even if you are staying at a hotel on the beach, locals and other guests have the right to water access. Please be respectful.

10. There is almost always a festival, walk, or event happening on the island! Come and enjoy!

I am proud to be a Canadian living in the Cayman Islands and have become to love this place in the short time I have been here.
