Last week, we ventured to Nova Scotiaโ€™s wild coast to experience the Coastal Gourmet Getaway - a one-night, local culinary inspired package at The Marmalade Motel in Port Dufferin.

Upon arrival, we checked into our Pink Flamingo-themed room. It was the cutest and coziest little getaway spot, decorated with charming flamingo artwork, blush-toned accents, and comfy touches. The best part? Every room has its own theme, so the whole motel feels fun, unique, and full of surprises.

After settling in, we walked over to the dining dome and were welcomed with drinks and appetizers by the sweetest hosts, Cheryl and Neil. We then joined a group of lovely ladies who were also visiting the motel to indulge in a gourmet local feast โ€“ a seafood dinner thoughtfully paired with Nova Scotia wine and a decadent dessert. Throughout dinner, Cheryl and Neil shared tips for preparing seafood and fishing tales from the Eastern Shore, which made the entire experience feel warm, authentic, and special.

Now, letโ€™s just take a moment to talk about the food! From a rich seafood bouillabaisse with clams, shrimp and Cape Breton red fish, to tender Atlantic salmon with lemon dill sauce and wild rice pilaf, ending with a decadent Irish Cream crรจme brรปlรฉe topped with maple whipped cream and chocolate โ€“ every bite was pure chefโ€™s kiss!

We wrapped up the evening with a nightcap by the fire, enjoying a delicious treat and warm drink.

The next morning, we visited The Marmalade Cafe & Coffee Bar in Sheet Harbour (just 13 minutes from the motel). The vibe was intimate and welcoming, and everything was made fresh to order. From the house breakfast sandwich and freshly baked goods to creamy espresso-based drinks, everything was scrumptious. To top it all off, as part of the Coastal Gourmet Getaway package, guests receive a $25 breakfast voucher โ€“ making it the perfect start to the day!

Thank you, Cheryl and Neil, for your warmth and hospitality, and for creating such a gem on the Eastern Shore. Weโ€™re so grateful to have experienced it, and we left feeling truly spoiled.

Elevate & Explore Black Nova Scotia and the Delmore โ€œBuddyโ€ Daye Learning Institute (DBDLI) are partnering on an exciting Eco-Tourism Project: Re-Envisioning the DBDLI Community Hub!

This innovative initiative will connect locals and visitors alike, offering a space to explore, learn, and celebrate the rich heritage of the African Nova Scotian community. Through education, awareness, and cultural celebration, we aim to showcase the vibrant history of Black communities in Nova Scotia.

Our mission is to deepen our understanding of shared history while contributing to economic empowerment and creating lasting connections. We can't wait to see how this project will honor the legacy of the African Nova Scotian community and offer something special for everyone involved.

Our ๐๐ฅ๐š๐œ๐ค ๐–๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐งโ€™๐ฌ ๐–๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐„๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐‘๐ž๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ took place last weekend and as the organizers behind the event, it was ๐๐„๐˜๐Ž๐๐ƒ what we couldโ€™ve imagined. Each part of the itinerary was designed to nourish our minds, bodies, and spirits and it did, just that. We gathered in a beautiful airbnb, surrounded by nature and from the moment guests arrived, there was an instant sense of sisterhood and connection.

Throughout the weekend, an ๐ˆ๐๐‚๐‘๐„๐ƒ๐ˆ๐๐‹๐„ group of women led us through transformative workshops focused on Vaginal Health, Nature & Mindfulness, Inner Child Healing, Plant Therapy, and a Sunday Morning Stretch Session.

Aside from the transformative workshops, one of the highlights of the weekend was one of the most ๐๐Ž๐–๐„๐‘๐…๐”๐‹ panel discussions weโ€™ve ever witnessed, focused on Holistic Wellness. Our panel brought together a group of 4 women who offered insights, guidance, and inspiration for a balanced and fulfilling life.

This retreat would not be possible without our ๐€๐Œ๐€๐™๐ˆ๐๐† guest host . Her presence was truly a gift to us all. Rajean was able to create a safe and nurturing space where guests could come together to heal, grow and thrive. With her gentle guidance, she encouraged guests to embrace their authenticity, celebrate their strengths, and embrace their journey towards holistic wellness. She embodies the spirit of sisterhood and solidarity, fostering connections that will extend far beyond the retreat.

A huge ๐’๐‡๐Ž๐”๐“-๐Ž๐”๐“ to for the delicious meals, exceptional service, and gracious accommodation of our guests. From vibrant bowls, to soul-warming dishes, each dish was a celebration of flavour and wellness.
