Spade & Palacio Tours

Spade & Palacio Tours Non-Touristy walking & biking tours. Small groups, no scripts. Food tours, street art, hoods all MTL! We hire only local and licensed fun guides.

About Us:
Spade & Palacio is a collaboration of two born and raised, young Montrealers who are passionate about our city and love to show it. We originally met during our guiding classes and bonded over a shared interest and intention of having our visitors walk away with a day in the life of a local experience. Three years later we decided to take matters into our own hands and the company was bo

rn. It’s simple; we take our guests away from the mains, our tours are non-touristy. We want to showcase unknown parts while promoting local, young and women entrepreneurs on our walking food tours and your local guide’s favorite parts of town on our bike tours. Unlike other companies, we guarantee intimate groups of 10 or less. You aren’t sheep we herd around town, you’re our guests and we keep it human scale, we keep it real.

Meet Angie ( Angélique Custeau)

Originaire de Sherbrooke, débarquée à MTL en 2017 pour les études en Sciences Po.

She has a background in hospitality. Her parents owned hotels and a catering company. Like many, she worked in restaurants throughout her studies. She went to the best service and hospitality school that gave her a foundation in the game; McDonalds.

In restaurants she started back of house and moved to the front of the house. She now co-owns a caviste and wine bar named Beyt; the Arabic word for house. She’s done and continues to do it all. She runs the wine program for three very different restaurants in MTL and is one of the ladies we showcase on our Women in Wine tour!

Each of our evening walks with Merrell Canada have a destination, a turn point and then it’s back to home base. A few stories along the way to understand the city, a lot of connection and just a good ol’ walk… tsé. Tonight: Dave hosted. Destination: some important Italian boat. 🫵

An ongoing series of MTL hidden gems by S&P founder, (semi) professional tour guide and fixer Danny !

As a an Ex Park Ex-er; I share with you Restaurant Canada Best , now behind my monthly pilgrimage to the old hood. Take away has always been my go to but sit down is possible if you like a NO FRILLS room with 4 tables and a similar vibe to a CLSC with windows. The Nasi Lemak brings me back to Malaysian trips. Get extra sambal, bite the cucumber to calm down the heat when needed or chug the lassi. You can head to the La Petite Boutique thrift across the street for more Parc Ex discoveries post dinner.

Along the Lajeunesse stretch of the REM, between trashy “brasseries” and mechanic shops there is cute corner restaurant that is as neighbourhood as Mr Rogers. It kinda feels like the friend you love just finished culinary school and you’re supporting them La Jeune Espiègle A hidden bistro with a great selection of wines in Youville. Remember, Youville, c’est Nousville.

La Hueca | Ecuadorian Restaurant is the perfect name for this Ecuadorian gem at the literal end of the Faubourg building’s food court. My hangover helper is their tuna and yucca fish stew, el encebollado. Pro tip, get extra aji de la casa, house spicy sauce. Provecho!

In what I call a doom spot; a space for a business that never lasts, we have finally have a solid contender. The beef tongue at Rizière melts on your tongue and I will travel for their Dandan noodles in the darkest winter. I’ve never eaten rice here 🤔

On a dilapidated stretch of Côte-Saint-Paul, my Persian friend and I were doing that happy dance in our chairs one does when the food slaps. مامان سادی/ Maman Sady deserves a Nobel prize for hands down the best Iranian food MTL has ever seen. Worth the shlep and the unbuttoning of the pants for indulgence. BYOB.

That’s it for this edition. Khodafez
