Accessibility isn’t just a checklist: it’s an invitation.

This National AccessAbility Week (May 25–31), we’re celebrating the steps our Prince Edward County tourism and business community can take (or continue!) to ensure everyone can enjoy The County. Together we’re building a destination where barriers don't stand in the way of a great memory.

💡 Operators: This week, take 10 minutes to update your business listing with any accessibility info it's missing, so that folks know what to experience at your space. A little clarity goes a long way for those visiting for the first tiime, returning, or living right in our own backyard!

And did you know there's an Accessibility Advisory Committee at the municipality? They're here to help local businesses thrive, can answer questions or review your project plans from an accessible lens, and there's tons of education we can all benefit from. If you want to get in touch, email The County's Clerk's Office at [email protected].

We'll share some specific resources on our social media stories throughout this week, so stay tuned!

Safer Spaces Training with .sexton | May 20 | Join us tomorrow! ✨️

Looking to teach your staff or members how they can create a safer space for the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community?

In this training, Myles will guide everyone through diversity and inclusion training covering topics like pronoun use, and the difference between gender identity and sexuality as well as breaking down the meaning and history of what 2SLGBTQIA+ means.

We will also go through easy ways you can make changes within your business or organization to make it a safer environment for everyone! Myles does all this through storytelling, creating a safe space for everyone to ask uncomfortable questions and teaching from their lived experience as a sober HIV-positive non-binary person.

Industry Event Spotlight: The Base31 Season Warm Up is happening May long weekend – Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17!

Base31 is eager to welcome the community back to its historic site and celebrate the start of summer, with free access site-wide and behind-the-scenes tours around key spaces, including the Exhibition Hall, Drill Hall RBC Stage, and The Commissary.

It all kicks off Friday with a site-wide open house from 2pm to 6pm where visitors can explore the District at their own pace. Visitors can be the first of the season to test out an e-bike at Pedego, peek inside Melt Gallery, and wind down with a friendly game of pickleball at Fairgrounds. Prizes, live music sets, and featured food and drink specials at The Commissary begin on Friday, encouraging guests to grab a drink, pull up a seat, and stay awhile.

Toast to the start of the season with standout musical performances from:
🎶 Rock Cut - 4:30pm, Friday, May 15th
🎶 Astrid Young - 12:30pm, Saturday, May 16th
🎶 Cue the Funk - 4:30pm, Saturday, May 16th
🎶 DJ Dames - 6:30pm, Saturday May 16th

Performances are free and open to all ages. Eating, dancing, and singing along is more than encouraged!

Base31 is also thrilled to announce that Charlotte Langley, a prominent Canadian chef and founder of Nice Cans, is bringing her cult following and unparalleled menu to The Commissary with Chef Char's Snack Shack; a specialty sandwich and wrap snack shack focused on out-of-the-box ingredients and bold flavour combinations.

Whether visitors are experiencing Base31 for the first time or returning for the season, this is the community-wide invitation to join in the celebration and kick off the season in the heart of The County.

Beach season is around the corner, and it's important you're in the loop so our visitors and guests are, too! 🏖️

Please be advised of upcoming infrastructure work at the Outlet Bridge, which may impact traffic flow to the Sandbanks area this season.

Following structural investigations in 2024 that identified cracking and the need for updated safety barriers, County Council approved the rehabilitation of the Outlet Bridge.

🌊 Work is scheduled to take place from May through October 2026.
🌊 A minimum of one lane of traffic is expected to be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
🌊 This essential work ensures the long-term safety and accessibility of one of our most high-traffic visitor corridors.
🌊 We recommend advising guests traveling to the Outlet and Sandbanks area to plan for potential minor delays during peak times.

We appreciate your help in keeping visitors informed & ensuring a smooth experience in The County this season.
