The best part of every journey has always been the people.

This Thanksgiving, we’ve been thinking about all the wonderful people who have become part of our Divine story.

The women who arrived as strangers and left as friends. The local guides who welcomed us into their worlds. The conversations that continued long after dinner. The laughter, the unexpected discoveries and the moments that brought us closer together.

Over fifteen years, we’ve had the privilege of experiencing extraordinary places. But when we look back, it’s rarely the destination we remember first.

It’s who was there with us.

To our travellers, our wonderful partners around the world and everyone who has supported The Divine Destination Collection along the way, thank you.

You’ve given us more stories, friendships and beautiful memories than we could ever have imagined when we began.

And with Vietnam just around the corner and Japan still to come, there is so much to look forward to.

There is a part of every Divine journey that our travellers rarely see.

The months before we leave.

The reading. The research. The conversations with local partners. The hotel visits. The restaurant recommendations that lead to another restaurant that leads to the restaurant.

We ask a lot of questions.

Not simply, “What should we see?”

But:

Where will we want to linger?

Who can help us understand this place more deeply?

Where will conversations naturally happen?

What will surprise our travellers?

And which experiences will still be talked about around the dinner table years from now?

We’ve always believed that planning a journey is a little like telling a story.

There needs to be a rhythm to it. Moments of discovery and moments to simply take it all in. And enough room for the unexpected, because those often become the best stories of all.

Right now, much of our attention is on Japan and the final Divine journey we’re creating for 2027.

But before Japan, there is another story waiting for us.

On October 17th, we leave for Vietnam.

Eight nights of extraordinary food, culture, history, adventure and discovery with another wonderful group of Divine travellers.

And after all these months of planning, we’re almost at our favourite part:

Watching the journey become real.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing Vietnam a little differently.

Not as a daily itinerary.

Not as a checklist of where we’ve been.

But through the moments, people, conversations and details that make us stop and think:

This is why we travel.

A Note from Japan, from Allison

One of the things I’ve been struck by during this site inspection is the attention given to the smallest details.

A beautifully prepared meal.
A garden tended with extraordinary patience.
The way something is presented.
The care taken in welcoming a guest.

Nothing feels accidental.

And as I experience Japan with our own Divine journey in mind, I find myself paying attention to these things even more.

Because a site inspection isn’t simply about finding beautiful hotels or deciding what we should see.

I’m constantly thinking about how something will feel for our travellers.

Will we want to linger here?

Will this experience help us understand Japan a little more deeply?

Is there enough time to really take it in?

Is this something they’ll still be talking about when we gather around the dinner table that evening?

That’s what makes being here so exciting.

I’m experiencing Japan for myself, of course, but I’m also imagining all of you here with us.

And Japan keeps reminding me of something Deb and I have believed for a very long time:

Details matter because they change how an experience feels.

Someone tended that garden.

Prepared that meal.

Set that table.

Thought carefully about how a guest would be welcomed.

Long before we arrived, someone was paying attention.

Perhaps that’s one of the things I’m loving most about Japan.

It doesn’t ask you to rush from one extraordinary sight to the next.

It invites you to notice.

And I have a feeling that’s going to be a very important part of our Divine Japan journey.

Why We Chose Japan

People often ask how we choose a destination.
The answer has NEVER been, “Because everyone is talking about it.”

We’re drawn to places that offer something deeper. Places with a strong sense of identity, where history and modern life exist side by side, and where the smallest details can tell you something about the culture.

Japan has fascinated me for a very long time.

There is an extraordinary thoughtfulness here that you notice almost immediately. In the way a gift is wrapped. The care given to a meal. The precision of a garden. The ritual of tea. The attention paid not only to what is done, but how it is done.

There is a Japanese concept called omotenashi; hospitality rooted in anticipating a guest’s needs and caring for them without expecting anything in return.

That resonated with me.

Because in many ways, it reflects something Deb and I have believed about Divine from the beginning: the details matter because people matter.

When we began imagining this journey, we didn’t start by asking, “What should everyone see?”

We started with a different question:

“How do we want our travellers to experience Japan?”

With enough time to notice.

To be curious.

To understand a little more.

To experience the energy of Tokyo and the stillness of Hakone. The traditions of Kyoto and the spirit of Osaka. The extraordinary food, craftsmanship, gardens, rituals and people in between.

And, importantly, to leave room for the unexpected moments that so often become the ones we remember most.

Being here now, walking these streets and experiencing many of these places for myself, I’m even more certain.

Japan isn’t simply somewhere to visit.

It’s somewhere to pay attention.

And for our final Divine journey, that feels exactly right.

By now, some of you have figured it out.

But there’s something we haven’t told you.

Allison isn’t simply travelling.

She’s been walking the streets, tasting the food, meeting people, exploring hotels, asking questions, taking notes and looking at this extraordinary place through a very particular lens:

What would it feel like to experience this with Divine?

Because this is how our journeys begin.

Long before the itinerary. Long before the reservations. Long before we pack our bags.

Someone goes ahead. Someone looks closer. And slowly, a journey begins to take shape.

Allison is there right now doing exactly that.

And on Monday, we’ll finally tell you why.

Our next Divine destination will be revealed Monday.

And yes, some of you already know ;)

WHY VIETNAM?
Some places reward you for looking closer.

People often ask how we choose a destination.

The answer has never been, “Because everyone is talking about it.”

We look for places that offer something deeper.

Places that invite curiosity. That have stories to tell. That reward you for slowing down, looking closer and allowing yourself to be surprised.

Vietnam is one of those places.

It is a country of extraordinary contrasts.

The energy of Hanoi in the morning. The quiet beauty of Ha Long Bay. The lantern-lit streets of Hoi An after dark.

Centuries of history alongside a country constantly moving forward.

Street food and extraordinary dining. Ancient traditions and contemporary creativity. Bustling streets and moments of complete stillness.

And everywhere, people and stories that give a place its heart.

When we began creating our Vietnam journey, we weren’t interested in simply asking, “What should we see?”

We asked, “How do we want our travellers to experience it?”

Slowly enough to notice.

Personally enough to connect.

Curiously enough to discover something unexpected.

That’s why our group is intentionally small.

It’s why we’ll experience Ha Long Bay aboard a private yacht, explore in ways that bring us closer to everyday life, and leave room for the conversations, meals and spontaneous moments that so often become our favourite memories.

Next month, that journey becomes real.

We’ll arrive in Vietnam with another wonderful group of Divine travellers, ready to experience everything we’ve spent so long imagining.

We have room for two more.

Fifteen Years Later:

There are moments when fifteen years feels like a very long time. And others when it feels as though everything began only yesterday.

Recently, we found ourselves looking through old travel photographs.

The destinations were beautiful, of course. But what caught our attention wasn’t the scenery.

It was the people.

The laughter around dinner tables. Friends leaning together over maps. Guides telling stories. The conversations and unexpected moments that somehow became the ones we remember most.

Fifteen years ago, we hoped Divine might become a company people trusted.

Today, we hope it has become something more.

A community.

We’ve watched travellers return year after year. Some have explored half the world with us. Others joined us once and somehow became lifelong friends.

And every journey has left its imprint not only on our travellers, but on us.

We’ve learned that wonderful itineraries matter, but warm hospitality matters even more. That guides become friends. Chefs become storytellers. And the people we travel with are ultimately what make a journey unforgettable.

And the story isn’t finished yet.

Next month, Divine travels to Vietnam.

Another small group. Another table to gather around. Another collection of stories we haven’t lived yet.

And beyond Vietnam, something incredibly special is waiting… a destination that has been part of our story for a very long time.

To everyone who has travelled with us, trusted us or dreamed about joining us one day: thank you.

You’ve shaped this story far more than you know.
