Mexico has approved new legislation that could affect families travelling south for their holidays. Here's what you need to know before you book or fly. 👇
What's happening:
Mexico's Senate has approved new legislation. Hotels and other tourism providers will need to verify that adults travelling with children (under 18) are their parents, legal guardians, or have legal authority.
Why:
To protect our children.
Where it applies:
All of Mexico, not just Cancun. This is a federal change.
Where things stand:
It's not in effect yet. The law still needs to be published officially, and there's no confirmed date. Details are still being clarified.
Smart to pack (just in case):
✔️Child's birth certificate listing both parents (long-form copies may be needed to show parents' names)
✔️Custody or guardianship papers, if they apply
Notarized consent letter if kids travel with grandparents, relatives, friends, or without one or both parents
