Our team, alongside Gael with Le Bois des Loups, has been working with Skeetchestn Community School for some time constructing the Food Hub near Savona, BC.

We're pleased to share that it's one step closer to completion with some finishing touches being completed recently!

Other parts of this large scale Food Sovereignty Plan include a food forest (which just got some TLC as well!), school garden, greenhouse, root cellar, food hub and rain water harvesting system, a stable for animal husbandry, a smoke house, a pit house and a tannery.

Calvin and Cody were up on Knox giving the bike trails a little facelift last week!

A couple selected features are being reshaped to better match trail speed, and fix drainage issues.

Completed here are the double table top rollers on Simpson Trail!

Well, the day is here...

Steve, one of the founders and partners of Cabin, is hanging his boots up and moving onto new adventures in life!

He's provided endless vision and stoke for Cabin throughout the last 27 years and his mentorship over that time has been invaluable.

We got a sneak peek as to what Steve has planned in his next chapter from our Values interview last fall.

Good luck Steve! Thanks for everything.

In March, the north side of Elk Falls Canyon View Trail in Elk Falls Provincial Park (just outside of Campbell River) was temporarily closed for upgrades. Our crew—Sam, Dylan, Trey, Solomon, and Nick—were hard at work doing trail maintenance, replacing aging boardwalks and replacing a pedestrian bridge.

We’re excited to share that the trail is now open again and ready to explore!

From a nascent Trails and Recreation Division (2016/17) to a standalone Company - Cabin Operations Ltd. (2023) - what an adventure it's been!

Did you know that Arrow Lakes Caribou Society (ALCS) recently hit their goal of collecting 300kg of lichen for the maternity pen project in Nakusp?

Recently a few Kootenay Cabinero's helped achieve that goal alonside ALCS and 50 students from Mt. Sentenial! They joined forces at Paulson pass to collect lichen with Cabinero's cutting branches for the students.

Caribou capture for the maternity pen is slated for late March!

Cabin Operations had the privilege to be part of the UBCO Sustainability Showcase once again this year! This student-led event brings together students and industry professionals, sparking conversations about careers in sustainability.

Representing Cabin, our Environmental/Recreation Division Manager - Gord Hiebert, engaged with students at our booth and shared his insights as a panelist, offering a firsthand look at what it means to work in a sustainable field.

We had a great time at this event connecting with the curious, engaged, and passionate next generation of environmental stewards!

Thanks for having us Sustainability Course Union and UBC Okanagan!

It's World Wildlife Day!

What's your most memorable wildlife interaction?

Most of our crews get the joy of interacting with wildlife daily. From the little bees, frogs and salamanders to the sleepy porcupines and wiley grouse all the way up to moose and bears! We feel pretty lucky to get to see wildlife in their natural environments. Here's a few shots our field crews have shared!

Our Story

Cabin Forestry Trails Projects: With a foundation built upon years of resource management experience and dedication to excellence, our strong team of trail experts are passionate about improving recreation trails in an environmentally responsible manner. We believe trails inspire movement and create opportunities for development and revitalization, while making it possible for people of all ages, skill and interests to enjoy the best of what recreation trails have to offer. Cabin Forestry Services provide quality product with innovative solutions that are cost effective. We feel that we have a highly mobile and flexible team, offering expertise and proficiency, which will allow you to attain your project objectives. Our professional trail-builders are passionate about trail advocacy and sustainability and we offer a wide range of trail development solutions for all kinds of recreation trails. A hands on approach to trail design and ex*****on allows us to establish a clear framework for a project’s implementation following the concept plan and feasibility phase. The primary strength of our team is our ability to provide highly qualified staff and deliver a product that is tailored to meet specific needs. In the past seven years Cabin Forestry has completed a number of successful trail projects for community user-groups, B.C. Parks, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Central Okanagan Regional District, and the District of West Kelowna. CFS has carefully selected experienced production planners, construction crews, certified fallers, and equipment operators who can do everything from initial trail planning, layout, and construction to detailed stair design. Our project managers are very experienced in dealing with provincial and federal government regulatory approvals and practice standards in engineering principles, drainage requirements, the stakeholder referral processes, IMBA and BC Parks trail guidelines, and Ministry of Environment (MOE) regulations. Cabin Forestry Services has a strong background dealing with recreation trail, forest road design and construction through sensitive ecosystems, and have processes in place for addressing Species at Risk, GAR wildlife habitat, First Nations cultural heritage and Archaeological assessment requirements. We have a solid team of specialists that include geotechnical engineers and wildlife biologists that can be brought in when necessary to address slope stability or habitat concerns to ensure the best trail building practices used in all of our projects.
