The Ukrainian Community in Cyprus and Obiimy Cultural Center gifted a mini-sculpture of Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky to Larnaka city on June 14, 2026.

The sculpture stands outside the cultural centre’s premises in Larnaka, alongside an exhibition inside, dedicated to the 18th-century traveller from Kyiv.

Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky travelled all over Cyprus on foot; lived on the island, and described it so precisely that his notes remain one of the most valuable primary sources on early modern Cyprus.

The sculpture - created by the cultural center Obiimy Cyprus and the family initiative Sushko Philanthropy - will also soon become part of the Larnaka Storytelling Statues!

Exhibition open daily from 10am – 7pm, until the end of June.

Larnaka city's unique appeal of having many attractions within walking distance has been perfectly captured in the artwork ‘A 5 Minute Walk’ by UK-based Cypriot artist Ioanna Georgiou.

The mixed media piece is based on the proximity of three important monuments: Saint Lazarus Church, Larnaka Medieval Castle (Fort), and the Kebir (Buyuk) Mosque.

Through her art, Ioanna demonstrates that years of ancient history is a mere five minutes apart: "This work is shaped by my personal connection to my hometown of Larnaka—a place where history, faith and culture sit gently alongside one another within a surprisingly small area. The composition isn’t accidental; the path that runs through it follows the same proportions and sense of direction you would experience when moving between these places on a map."

The piece is part of the 'There is an Island III' group exhibition currently on display at the Cyprus High Commission in London.
