August 28, 1909, Count Zeppelin landed one of his famous airships (specifically the LZ6 model) at that exact location, which at the time was merely an open field on the outskirts of Nuremberg.
The landing was a grand event that drew a crowd of thousands of enthusiastic citizens. To honor the Count’s achievement and the impressive aircraft, the city of Nuremberg officially named the site *Zeppelinfeld* (Zeppelin Field).
Its Later Transformation by Hi**er
Many people associate the site’s name directly with the N**i regime because, in the 1930s, Adolf Hi**er and his architect Albert Speer transformed the field into a massive propaganda complex.
They retained the original name but constructed the famous stone grandstands (the *Zeppelinhaupttribüne*), where the immense, theatrical N**i Party rallies (*Reichsparteitage*) were held.
