On Wednesday, 12 August 2026, Ibiza will experience a TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE.

Due to the large number of people expected to travel to viewpoints and coastal areas to watch the eclipse, Sant Josep Local Police have announced that 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟯:𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗠 in different parts of the municipality.

Emergency services must be able to reach any incident quickly. A badly parked vehicle or blocked road could seriously delay an ambulance, fire engine or other emergency response.

Allow significantly more time than usual. Heavy traffic, road restrictions and unusually high demand for transport could make journeys considerably longer.

🚖 Uber's surge pricing is making headlines in Ibiza once again... and not for the right reasons.

Uber continues to generate controversy in Ibiza because of its dynamic pricing system, which comes into effect whenever demand increases – something that happens regularly during the busy summer season.

That is exactly what happened on Friday night. With numerous events taking place at beach clubs and nightclubs across the island, many tourists were surprised to discover that almost every Uber journey available through the app was priced at over €100, regardless of the distance between the pick-up point and the destination.

One traveller contacted Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera to share what they described as an outrageous fare. They showed that a journey from Hotel Puchet in Sant Antoni to Ushuaïa Ibiza in Playa d'en Bossa, where Calvin Harris was performing that Friday night, was being advertised as an "Irresistible Promotion."

The offer was for a six-passenger van arriving in 14 minutes, costing €157.99. The next available option, arriving in 18 minutes, was a Van XL priced at €180. Even a standard Uber vehicle was offered for €121.95.

For comparison, the same journey in an official Ibiza taxi would normally cost around €30–35 per taxi, not per passenger. Up to four passengers can travel for the same fare, compared with the minimum €100+ being charged by Uber.

This was not the only report received by the newspaper that night. Another traveller explained that Uber was asking for at least €130 for a journey starting from Hotel Torre del Mar. In both cases, the app displayed the warning message "Prices are higher than usual."

How does Uber's pricing work?

According to information published on Uber's own website, when demand for rides increases there may not be enough vehicles available to satisfy all requests. When demand exceeds supply, fares automatically increase.

Uber explains that situations such as bad weather, rush hour or special events can temporarily create a large number of ride requests at the same time, resulting in higher prices.

The company also states that this dynamic pricing system helps ensure that Uber remains a reliable transport option, even during periods of exceptionally high demand.

Passengers either pay more or wait

Uber also explains that whenever surge pricing is in effect, passengers are notified before confirming their trip.

Some users choose to pay the higher fare, while others prefer to wait a few minutes to see whether prices return to normal.

Uber's arrival in Ibiza

Uber began operating in Ibiza in November 2023 with 14 VTC vehicles. Although the company has not provided updated figures, the number of vehicles operating on the island is expected to have increased since then.

In addition to its transport service, Uber has expanded its presence in Ibiza this summer by launching a boat rental service through its platform.

Each official taxi in Ibiza can carry up to 4 passengers, so if you are a group of 4, you can split the fare between everyone.

From July 4th, the new Citizen Coexistence Ordinance of Sant Josep de sa Talaia comes into force.

This is important for both residents and visitors, because Sant Josep de sa Talaia covers some of the busiest and most important areas of Ibiza, including Ibiza Airport, Playa d’en Bossa, Cala de Bou (commonly known as San Antonio Bay), and many popular beaches and resort areas such as Cala Comte, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida and more.

Under this new regulation, hiring illegal transport with origin or destination in Sant Josep is expressly prohibited and can be fined.

The fine for hiring illegal transport is €500.

Remember: this municipality includes many of the areas where illegal drivers often try to operate, especially around nightlife, tourist hotspots and busy transport points.

Sant Antoni also has similar regulations and penalties related to the use of illegal transport, so visitors should not take the risk.

How to Order a Taxi in Ibiza via WhatsApp! 🚖📱 2026

Follow these steps to quickly request a taxi using WhatsApp:

✅ Step 1: Save the official Ibiza taxi number: +34 971 333 333.

✅ Step 2: Open WhatsApp and send a message saying "Hello" or something similar. Radio Taxi will respond asking if you want to order a taxi.

✅ Step 3: Reply affirmatively and provide your location in one of the following ways:
- Sharing your live location via WhatsApp.
- Typing the street name and number.
- Selecting a previous address if you have used this service before.

✅ Step 4: Confirm the pickup address sent by Radio Taxi.

✅ Step 5: Specify whether you want the taxi as soon as possible or if you prefer to schedule a pickup for later.
