✈️ As many of you will have seen, there has been major disruption across airports over the past couple of days, with delays, cancellations and people stranded overseas because aircraft simply can’t get out to collect them.

I’m not going to go into the full “this is why you should book through a human” conversation again on this post, but needless to say, I’ve already had several people come to me today who didn’t book through me and are struggling to get hold of online operators for help and advice when they really need it.

But what really shocked me was reading that some people had packed their essential medication into their checked baggage.

So, what should you actually have in your hand luggage?

Here’s what I always have with me:

💊 Prescription and essential over-the-counter medication

💍 All jewellery

📄 Passports, tickets, vouchers and travel insurance details

💳 Foreign currency and credit cards

💄 A small selection of skincare products and makeup

📱 Camera, phone, laptop and chargers

💇‍♀️ Straighteners — because I use them every day and, unlike hairdryers, hotels don’t always provide them!

🩲 Spare underwear

👙 Swimwear, flip-flops and something lightweight to wear if I’m flying somewhere hot

And that’s it.

I’m not trying to teach regular travellers to suck eggs, but there are plenty of people who only travel once a year, or perhaps are travelling for the first time, who may not have thought about what they would actually need if their checked luggage was delayed or they were unexpectedly stuck somewhere.

And one final reminder — always check your airline’s hand luggage allowance before you fly.

📏 Dimensions vary between airlines, and don’t forget that the wheels and handles on your small suitcase need to fit within those measurements too.

Hopefully this is useful — and perhaps worth saving for your next trip. ✈️

🛳️ After a little 3-night sailing on Queen Mary 2, I’m back at my desk.

Did I de-frazzle? Sadly, not completely! It takes me about three days before I truly manage to wind down, so just as I was starting to relax… it was time to come home.

I did, however, almost manage to remain technology-free. I checked my emails just once while I was away, despite having my Out of Office on, as I was waiting for an important email—which, of course, never came!

So that’s another thing to add to today’s to-do list… chase it. 🙈

But there was no posting on any platform. Not even Stories!

To be honest, on such a short sailing, most of my time was spent searching out every venue and experiencing as much of the ship as I possibly could, so that I can report back properly. The result? I completely exhausted myself, clocking up well over 10,000 steps a day according to my Apple Watch!

Now, would I go on this ship again?

I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if I wasn’t honest, so… probably not.

And that is absolutely not because there is anything wrong with Queen Mary 2.

I love Cunard, and last year I had the most amazing voyage on Queen Victoria. But they are very different ships, offering very different experiences.

As I always say, there’s a ship for everyone—and this one just happens not to be for me.

And that’s exactly why doing these trips is so important.

So that I can listen to all your requirements, likes, dislikes and preferences, understand the experience you really want from your holiday or cruise, and then help find the option that is most suitable for you.

So now it’s back to the grindstone!

Today will mainly be spent catching up on emails. Tomorrow is a bit of a write-off, as I have a wisdom tooth extraction booked—and I’m really not looking forward to that one! 😬

Then it’ll be back to helping lots of lovely clients plan their:

☀️ October half-term breaks
☀️ Winter sun holidays
⛷️ Ski breaks
✨ Northern Lights adventures
🎅 Amazing Lapland trips for Christmas
🚢 Cruises as far ahead as 2029
🏖️ Summer 2027 school holiday trips

And if you’re thinking about the Summer 2027 school holidays, now really is a great time to start getting things organised for the best availability.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll also be showing you that Europe isn’t the only option when it comes to the six-week summer holidays!

So, if you’ve stumbled across this post and don’t already follow me, but you’re interested in seeing some different holiday ideas and inspiration, do follow along here—or find me on Instagram and Facebook, where I share even more travel ideas.

But for today, it’s time to start ploughing through almost a week’s worth of emails, follow up on enquiries in the pipeline, check in with my clients departing this month to make sure everything is in order, reconfirm arrangements, and prepare those all-important travel documents.

How’s your week starting?

There are three very good reasons I’m putting my out-of-office on… ✈️🥂🧠

And I think the third one is probably the most important.

Reason #1 — I’m going cruising! 🚢

I’m heading off for a short sailing on the wonderful Queen Mary 2. After all, it would be rather rude to be a travel advisor and not occasionally go and experience the travel I’m always talking about! 😉

Reason #2 — We’re celebrating our wedding anniversary. ❤️

David and I have never really been “present” people. Instead, we give each other the gift of travel.

Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas… whenever we can, we’d much rather have a memory to look back on than something sitting on a shelf.

And what better way to celebrate another year together than by going away?

Reason #3 — I need to empty my brain! 🧠😂

I’ve been incredibly busy lately and, if I’m honest, my brain is FULL.

So I’m taking a proper break to switch off, unwind, defrazzle… and give myself some space to come back feeling refreshed.

Because there’s plenty coming up.

October half term, Christmas, and already looking ahead to next summer… and I want to be back with a clear head, full of energy and ready to help you plan all of it.

So from today until Monday 7th September, I’ll be officially OUT OF OFFICE.

I’ll still have my phone with me, of course, but I’m going to make a conscious effort to put the business brain away and enjoy some much-needed time off.

But don’t worry — you’re not completely without support.

In the unlikely event of an emergency, or if you have something genuinely urgent that can’t wait until I return, I have a wonderful fellow Travel Counsellor looking after my business for me while I’m away.

She has been a Travel Counsellor for an incredible 26 years, so you’re in very safe hands.

Simply drop me a WhatsApp on my usual number and I’ll make sure your enquiry gets passed on to her.

Otherwise… I’m off to switch off, recharge and enjoy some very precious time away. ❤️

And yes… I fully intend to come back with plenty of stories, photos and probably a few new travel recommendations! 😉

Oh… and of course, fully defrazzled.😊
