The cruise cabin mistake that could cost you more than you think.

When booking a cruise, it's tempting to head straight for the cheapest cabin and put the money saved towards excursions, drinks or a special meal on board.

And sometimes, an inside cabin is absolutely the right choice.

But there's more to choosing your cabin than the price.

Where it's located on the ship, what's above or below it, how much movement you might feel and whether you'll genuinely use a balcony can all make a difference to your experience.

After more than 20 years in the travel industry, including time working on cruise ships, I always think it's worth looking at the bigger picture before choosing a cabin.

The good news? You don't necessarily need to spend more. You just need to choose wisely.

Some of my favourite holidays are the ones that take you somewhere you might not have thought of booking in the first place.

It's easy to keep looking at the same familiar destinations, but there is a whole world of wonderful places offering something a little different. From Slovenia's beautiful lakes to Namibia's extraordinary landscapes, or the laid-back charm of Puglia, sometimes the best trips start with looking beyond the obvious.

I love helping people find somewhere that suits them, rather than simply choosing somewhere because everyone else is going there.
