Who decided a holiday has to be two weeks long?

Sometimes you don't need a fortnight in the sunshine.

You need 3 nights somewhere completely different.

A long lunch that turns into dinner.

A hotel you don't want to leave.

A city you've never explored.

A proper lie-in without an alarm.

And the smug feeling on Monday morning that you've been away for much longer than you actually have.

Short breaks are becoming a bigger part of how people travel, and I completely understand why.

You can have the big annual holiday to look forward to, but still sprinkle a few little adventures throughout the year.

So here's the question...

If I gave you 3 nights and told you to go somewhere, where would you choose?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently.

When people come to me wanting to plan a big holiday, they often start with a destination.

But sometimes I think we should start somewhere completely different.

What's the ONE thing you'd absolutely love to experience?

Watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky.

Seeing wildlife in its natural habitat.

Sleeping beneath a blanket of stars.

Taking an incredible rail journey.

Sailing somewhere you've always dreamed of visiting.

Walking through a place you've only ever seen in photographs.

Once I know that, I can build the rest of the trip around it.

For me, that's the joy of tailor-made travel. It's not about trying to squeeze every possible sight and experience into one itinerary. It's about working out what will make your trip memorable, then making the rest of the journey fit around it.

So, if you could choose just ONE travel experience, what would it be?

Mauritius is calling, and I can think of worse places to answer.

If you’re dreaming of warm Indian Ocean breezes, beautiful beaches, lazy mornings and a proper chance to switch off, this could be just the escape you need.

This 7-night stay at the InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort includes a Deluxe Ocean View room, half board, flights and transfers.

There’s a beautiful beach, two pools, a spa, complimentary kayaking and glass-bottom boat trips, plus plenty of lovely places to eat and enjoy a sunset drink overlooking Balaclava Bay.

And if you can tear yourself away from the resort, there’s plenty to explore beyond it too, from the botanical gardens and Port Louis markets to rum tasting, mountain scenery and catamaran trips.

And remember, I can also tailor a Mauritius holiday around you, whether that means adding a few nights, upgrading your room, exploring more of the island or combining it with another destination.

Where to go in October?

If you’re thinking about escaping this autumn, October is a brilliant month for exploring somewhere a little different.

Morocco’s Marrakech brings warm days, atmospheric souks and beautiful riads, perfect for a long weekend with a difference.

Dublin is ideal for a shorter city break, with cosy pubs, great food, plenty of history and that unmistakable Irish charm.

Or go further afield to Cambodia, where October marks the end of the wet season, bringing lush landscapes, fewer visitors and the chance to explore incredible temples, culture and countryside.

Three destinations, three very different experiences. The question is, which one would you choose?

If you’re thinking about an October escape, I can help you find the right destination, flights and hotels to suit how you actually want to travel, rather than simply picking the cheapest option online.

Namibia is one of those places that makes you question whether you’ve actually landed on Earth.

Where else can you watch elephants navigating the desert, drive through landscapes that look like another planet, explore ancient rock engravings, stand among enormous sand dunes and finish the day beneath some of the darkest skies you’ll ever see?

And that’s before you get to the Skeleton Coast, Fish River Canyon and the sheer sense of space.

What I love about Namibia is that it isn’t just about one spectacular sight. It’s the combination of experiences that makes it so special.

It’s wild, remote, incredibly diverse and, in many places, wonderfully uncrowded.

If you’re looking for a trip that feels genuinely different from anywhere you’ve been before, I’d put Namibia very high on the list.

Would Namibia make it onto your travel wish list?

Save this one for later, because I have a feeling Namibia may be calling your name.

If you know you want a really special holiday but have absolutely no idea where to start, you’re definitely not alone.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t booking the holiday. It’s deciding what the holiday should actually look like in the first place.

That’s where I come in.

I’ll ask the questions you might not have thought about, take into account how you like to travel, what you’ve loved before and, just as importantly, what you haven’t enjoyed.

Then I can turn all those “we quite fancy…” ideas into a trip that actually feels like you.

After nearly 20 years in travel, I’ve learnt that the best itineraries aren’t necessarily the ones with the most destinations. They’re the ones that get the balance right.

So, if you could book one completely tailor-made holiday tomorrow, where would you go?

I’d love to know.

Travel agent confession: I wouldn’t book this holiday, and here’s why…

👉A beautiful-looking hotel in the wrong location
👉A “cheap” flight with an awful connection
👉A cruise cabin that looks great on the deck plan but isn't ideal
👉An itinerary that tries to cram too much in
👉A safari lodge that looks incredible but has poor access to the actual wildlife areas
👉A long-haul holiday where the flight timings eat into two days of the trip

It’s why I always look beyond the headline price when I’m putting a holiday together.
