Found a flight with a stopover that looks like a bargain? Before you book, make sure you know whether it's a genuine connection or a self-transfer! 👀

Here's what you need to look out for:

🎫 One booking or separate tickets? – Flights booked together are often protected as a connection if a delay causes you to miss the next flight. Separate tickets may leave you responsible for arranging and paying for a replacement.

🧳 Check your luggage arrangements – With a self-transfer, you may need to collect your bags and check them in again for the next flight.

🛂 Allow time for immigration and security – You might need to enter the country, clear customs, and go through security again.

⏰ Leave plenty of time between flights – Don't assume an hour is enough, particularly if you're changing terminals or travelling on separate tickets.

🇩🇪✈️ MY TRIP TO BERLIN – DAY 5: THE JOURNEY HOME! 🏡❤️

And just like that… it's time to say Auf Wiedersehen, Berlin! 👋🇩🇪

Five days of exploring, sightseeing, history, coffee stops and plenty of German food have come to an end. But before heading home, there's one final journey to make!

👣 54,493 STEPS! 😱

Five days of exploring Berlin certainly added up! My feet have definitely earned a rest after all those landmarks, streets and hidden gems. 😂

🧳 GATWICK AIRPORT – ONSITE PARKING

The trip started with an early start and onsite parking at Gatwick, making it easier to get to the airport, park up and begin the adventure.

🚕 BERLIN BRANDENBURG AIRPORT – GETTING THERE

After one last look around Berlin, it was time to book a taxi and head back to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), ready for the flight home.

✈️ BERLIN TO GATWICK

Time to check in, get through security, grab any last airport essentials and board the flight back to London Gatwick.

There's always something bittersweet about the final airport journey. You're looking forward to getting home, but already thinking about all the memories you've made!

🇩🇪 A FEW BERLIN TRAVEL TIPS!

If you're planning your own Berlin city break, here's a few things I learnt along the way:

🚇 U-Bahn – Underground

Berlin's underground is brilliant for getting around the city quickly. It's especially useful for reaching attractions and exploring different neighbourhoods.

🚆 S-Bahn – Suburban trains

The S-Bahn is great for travelling longer distances across Berlin and connecting different parts of the city. It's also useful for getting to and from the airport.

🚄 FEX – Airport Express

The FEX connects BER Airport with central Berlin, including Berlin Hauptbahnhof. It's a handy option when travelling between the airport and city. We used it to get into the city when we arrived, but opted for a taxi on the way back to the airport.

🎟️ PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS

Berlin uses different fare zones:

• AB – central Berlin and the city area
• ABC – includes Berlin, surrounding areas and BER Airport

If you're travelling between BER Airport and central Berlin, you'll generally need an ABC ticket.

You can buy tickets using the BVG, VBB or S-Bahn apps, or from ticket machines at stations and the airport.

⚠️ Remember to validate paper tickets before travelling if they haven't already been validated. Check your ticket covers the zones you're travelling through.

📱 PLAN YOUR JOURNEY

Use the BVG or VBB journey planners to check routes, connections and current travel information. It's worth checking before setting off, especially when travelling to the airport.

🛫 BERLIN AIRPORT TIPS

• Allow plenty of time to get to the airport.
• Check your terminal before travelling.
• Follow the signs to the airport train station at Terminal 1 if travelling by train.
• Check live departure information before boarding.
• Keep your passport and boarding pass easily accessible.
• Don't forget to leave time for security and airport queues.

🚗 GATWICK PARKING TIPS

• Pre-book airport parking where possible.
• Check which terminal you're flying from.
• Allow extra time to park and get to departures.
• Keep your booking confirmation handy.
• Remember to check your return parking arrangements before travelling.

🇩🇪 MY TRIP TO BERLIN – DAY 4: ANIMALS, COFFEE & ONE LAST BURGER! ☕🐘🍔

The final full day in Berlin! 😭❤️ How has this trip gone so quickly?!

Today was all about enjoying a few more Berlin highlights before an early night and the journey home tomorrow.

☕ Morning coffee at Einstein Kaffee – because no day of exploring is complete without a caffeine fix! 😂

🐘 Berlin Zoo – spending the day discovering the animals and exploring one of Berlin’s best-known attractions. A lovely change of pace after a few days packed with history, landmarks and lots of walking!

🍔 Dinner at Burgermeister – naturally, one last opportunity to enjoy those famous burgers and fries before heading home. You can't go wrong with a good burger! 🤤🍟

😴 An early night – time to get everything packed, rest those feet and recharge before tomorrow’s journey home.

Berlin has been such a brilliant city to explore, with an incredible mix of history, culture, architecture, food and little discoveries along the way.

From walking around the Brandenburg Gate and learning about the Berlin Wall to sampling currywurst, discovering coffee spots and wandering through the city, it's been a trip full of memories. 🇩🇪

🇩🇪 MY TRIP TO BERLIN – DAY 3: HISTORY, THE COLD WAR & MORE GERMAN FOOD! 🧱

Another day exploring Berlin, and today was all about discovering more of the city’s fascinating history, seeing some iconic landmarks and, of course, enjoying more German food! ❤️

🧱 Berlin Wall Memorial – a chance to see original sections of the Wall, learn about the division of Berlin and reflect on the lives affected by it. A powerful reminder of a time that shaped the city.

🚧 Checkpoint Charlie – visiting one of the most famous former crossing points between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. Standing here really brings the history to life!

🎨 East Side Gallery – walking along this incredible stretch of the Berlin Wall, now transformed into an open-air gallery covered in artwork, colour and powerful messages. History meets creativity in such a unique way!

It’s amazing how much there is to learn about Berlin. Every place tells a different story, and some of them really make you stop and think.

🌭 And now for the important part… DINNER! 😂🍟

Back to Curry 61, because one visit clearly wasn't enough!

🇩🇪🏛️ DAY 2 IN BERLIN – HISTORY, COFFEE & LOTS OF FOOD! ☕🍔🌭

Day 2 is all about exploring Berlin, discovering its history, ticking off iconic landmarks… and, of course, sampling plenty of food and coffee along the way! 😂❤️

☕ Morning coffee at Einstein Kaffee – the perfect way to fuel up before a day of exploring.

🏛️ Brandenburg Gate – one of Berlin’s most recognisable landmarks and an absolute must-see!

🏛️ Reichstag Building – admiring the impressive architecture of the home of the German Parliament.

🕊️ The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe – a powerful and moving place for reflection and remembrance.

✨ Spotting the golden commemorative plaques – the Stolpersteine, or “stumbling stones”, set into the pavements to remember Jewish people and other victims of N**i persecution who were deported and murdered. Small plaques with incredibly powerful stories behind them.

🍔 Lunch at Burgermeister – because all that sightseeing deserves a proper burger!

☕ Afternoon coffee at LAP Coffee – another caffeine stop before carrying on with the day.

🎄 A little Christmas shopping – getting into the festive spirit while exploring the city.

🛒 Snacks from REWE – essential supplies for the hotel room and those inevitable snack cravings! 😂

🥙 Dinner: doner kebab! – finishing the day with another Berlin food classic.

From fascinating history and moving memorials to coffee stops, burgers, Christmas shopping and kebabs, Berlin is certainly keeping me busy!

It’s amazing how much you can discover by exploring a city on foot, taking in the little details and learning the stories behind the places you visit. ❤️
