🇺🇬 Uganda: gorillas… and so much more
Most people think of Uganda and immediately picture one thing — mountain gorillas. And yes… nothing quite prepares you for that moment in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, standing in the misty rainforest just a few metres from a wild gorilla family. It’s quiet, powerful, and genuinely one of those life-slowing experiences you never forget.
But what I love about Uganda is this… it doesn’t stop there. It keeps surprising you, again and again.
This is a country that feels raw, real and beautifully untouched — and it rewards every curious traveller with something extraordinary.
Here’s just a little glimpse of what’s waiting for you…
💧 Murchison Falls
Imagine the full force of the River Nile being squeezed through a narrow seven-metre gorge before crashing down into the river below. It’s powerful, dramatic, and completely unforgettable. The surrounding national park is just as special — elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and hundreds of bird species all sharing the landscape.
🐒 Kibale Forest
A thick, green rainforest alive with sound. This is one of the best places in Africa to trek chimpanzees, guided through the forest to find habituated communities. Watching them interact in the wild is fascinating — intelligent, emotional and surprisingly familiar.
🦁 Queen Elizabeth National Park
Famous for its tree-climbing lions — yes, lions actually lounging in fig trees. It feels almost unreal when you see it. Add in a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel and you’ve got some of the best wildlife viewing anywhere in Africa.
🦓 Lake Mburo
Small but full of character. This is the only park in Uganda where you’ll see impala, and it’s one of the few where you can explore on foot, by bike or even on horseback. Zebra, eland and warthog roaming freely — it’s wonderfully relaxed and easy to combine into a longer itinerary.
🦍 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
The highlight for many — and for good reason. Home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, this is one of the most sought-after wildlife experiences on earth. Just one hour with a gorilla family changes the way you see wildlife forever. It really is that special.
🏔️ The Rwenzori Mountains
Known as the Mountains of the Moon, this UNESCO-listed range is wild, remote and breathtaking. From multi-day treks to shorter walks through afro-alpine scenery, it feels like stepping into another world entirely.
🛶 Jinja & the Source of the Nile
Where it all begins. The Nile starts its incredible 6,700km journey here, and Jinja has become East Africa’s adventure capital — rafting, kayaking, paddleboarding, bungee jumping… or simply a peaceful boat trip to the source itself.
🤍 And then there’s the people…
Uganda is often called the “Pearl of Africa”, and a big part of that is its warmth. The welcome you receive here stays with you just as much as the landscapes. Community visits and cultural encounters add something really meaningful to any journey.
Uganda is one of those destinations that doesn’t just stay in your passport… it stays with you.
Wild, green, welcoming, and quietly extraordinary in every way.
I would love to go- would you?
